New Green Mountain barrel experience

I wanted a lighter, and hopefully more accurate barrel for my heavy barrel 10/22. Took a chance on a Green Mountain stainless fluted with Bentz chamber.
Installed it without hogging out the laminated stock. Barrel to receiver fit took a few taps with a rubber mallet. Set the action screw at 15”lbs. The barreled action went from free-float to snug fit from end to end. Figured I would glass bed and free float later, if needed.
Range tested today with 200 rounds of SK+. 50 yard group shown. Functioning was 100%, using both the 10-round factory and 15-round factory magazines. I used a front bag solo, no rear bag since it was in my other truck. Stock trigger sucks, but it will be next to get attention. Vortex at max magnification worked well. Target at 50 yards.
I paid $240 for this barrel on Ebay and so far, the little rifle exceeds my modest expectations.

I agree with the dime on the target...gives something visually small, but with a known physical size for comparison (without all of the computer generated gobbledygook in the pic, which a lot of folks don't comprehend anyway)..and it's also something in your pocket that can be used for scope adjustments, if needed in a pinch

10@50yds of SK Std+...never actually measured these groups, so I can't tell you their actual size, but with the dime there you can get a pretty good idea

and you could also send that heavy Target barrel (if that's what you had) off to Randy@CPC for a rework...then you'd have a barrel that still fit the stocks barrel channel, was a bit lighter than the stock barrel, and looks cool too.. ;)

I agree about the Kidd, but I am spoiled by Timney and Jard in my CZs, so no surprise.
My bigger issue was figuring out how uncomfortable and difficult it was for me to get great hits with the short stock on the Ruger. It cries out for a fully adjustable chassis. I have an Oryx on one Cz457, that works fine but
i miss a folding stock. Anybody have good luck with anything else?
Another Cz457 has a PDC folding and adjustable chassis. I need to call Craig and ask if his chassis is made for the 10/22. If so, I feel another $850 flying out of my wallet😔

I don't own a 10/22, but have bought a number of GM barrels in both .22RF and even more centerfire cartridges. I've had nothing but great accuracy from them!
I'm currently on their backorder list waiting on a 27" GM full round 1.20" .22 barrel to fit to one of my old Marlin Ballard schuetzen rifles. Hopefully it wont be too long. They're usually pretty fast at filling orders that are out of stock.

Yes, center to center. A US dime is 0.705” in diameter. Roughly, 1 MOA at 50 yards is 0.500”. Add 0.224” for an extreme spread (outside edge of bullet holes) of 0.724”. So, if a dime will hide the entire group, it’s < 1MOA.
if a dime covers the group is actually sub MOA, not by much but it is still sub MOA and no problems with everything being in focus in the picture.

Great group sir and spectacular shooting.
As a rough, ballpark measure, I believe if a dime will completely cover a 22 caliber group shot at 50 yards, it’s less than 1 MOA.
You are correct, sir.!
where can I send your prise too? 😁😉 just Kidd ing.
you are astute and observant.

For $240 delivered, the thought of needing a warranty isn’t something I worry about. I buy used target rifles on Gunbroker. My expectation is that I either get a good one, end up with just a parts donor, or get to play gunsmith while learning new skills.
If a barrel manufacturer guarantees a certain performance level for a custom Krieger barrel, then I might wish to know about his warranty.
i have yet to buy a Krieger barrel for less than $650. Of course, I haven’t needed warranty assistance, either🥳
