That's a nice rifle for sure.
At 8.1# and 8.81# respectively for the 20" & 24" barrels then add a scope we're talking some serious weight for some of us old geezers to carry around. I can't see me traipsing around the woods squirrel hunting with either of my Varmint MTR's.:rolleyes::LOL:

I understand that. I tried traipsing around the woods just once with my At One. That was enough for my old arms and back.

When the 457 was initially announced, it was the MTR that caught my eye as the design of the stock matched up with the pre-owned Anschutz 54.18 I had bought. I was fortunate to acquire an MTR from a fellow RFC member and have been very pleased with it.

I’ve examined the Range stock ( centerfire version ) like the wood and was almost ready to buy one, but I did back off do to price. I don’t require an adjustable comb as I mount my scopes as low as possible. The cutout ( I’m sure there is a name for that ) in the bottom of the stock doesn't work well with my bench setup - thus I prefer the MTR stock style.

I personally wouldn’t trade the MTR stock for the Range stock but that’s just me. We each have our own preferences. Nice to have another option though.

After looking at the stock some more.... Wish I could see a top view of the stock to see if it has a right hand offset. If it does in fact have an offset stock it looks to me that a jig saw and some careful crafting would make your MTR stock very close to the same. Minus of course the lamination part. Meanwhile the Pro Varmint stock is going to have to fill the need - at a much cheaper price I will wager.
