Wanted to share an amazing new pistol, a custom build 2011 22Lr from Chet at CWA Custom Rimfire Pistols. First, Chet was great to work with, easy to get a hold of and great to talk to. He was very helpful in designing the pistol with what options and colors I wanted. Chet, thanks for all the help, you rock.

The gun is out of this world, I recieved it yesterday and spent quite a while just looking at it. The fit and finish is top notch, the slide is smooth as butter and the trigger is one of the best I have ever felt. CHet recommended a 300 round break in, so I went to the range today and fired 400 rounds with zero malfunctions, out side of two related to ammo. Using CCI Mini Mags and two had solid firing pin strikes, but did not go boom.

Shooting steel and it almost felt like cheating, the red dot does not move. I have been using a Volquartsen Mamba-X which is a great gun, but this is next level.

I dealt with Chet when I had a GSG 1911 and can attest to his being a great guy to work with. :iagree: That was when he began working on his own uppers and custom 1911s and I always admired his work. I chose the Bob Marvel route as I came across a complete, preowned 1911 already customized for about the same price as a GSG. Had that not happened I probably would have chosen a CWA custom 1911. I enjoy 1911s in various calibers, but shooting an accurate 22LR version is great fun and much more economical. :yippee:

Masterpiece Arms makes on that is very similar in 9mm. It is pretty sweet. My LGS is a dealer for them. They get them in small batches and don't stick around for long, even at that price. I'd like to have one, but I can't really justify another race type build in 9 right now.

I have a CZ Checkmate that scratches that itch and it is too nice to shoot to want to sell or trade for the MPA.

I'm rearranging my collection, so I'll probably get one eventually.

I got an MPA SCSA model very recently , really liking it but only sighted in with 8 shots so far since i got it last week. I'm shooting open with it Saturday. It matches the CWA closely, however the grip isnt a cheely so not exactly the same but very close. I like them both, the MPA thumbrest is better with the grippy surface for index IMHO. I was going to to go LOC but id rather the setups match ergos and besides open needs saving after all! Didnt plan on this still May as my goal was to get to high A before doing open as well. I almsot bought another CWA instead but it felt too redundant.Tried to use my ruger again and it feels too light now. I might do brass grips on it next but it largely became a backup. Trying to get my wife to try it but she hates the colors ;) CWA is too heavy for her and well, its mine and she shoots irons.

I noticed CWA got a write up in USPSA magazine as well got the issue in the mail yesterday.

Looks like CWA 'MAY' be shipping the 15rd mags with new pistols as a 'base mag' from one example i heard about. I'm still running the 10s since I have 6 setup for the pistol and don't need to run multiple stages off one mag, although I intend to do 2 stages per mag with open even if its considered suboptimal weight wise for draw, Ill revist later but having 126s, 140s and 155s i got 5 of none of them and likely would go all 140s if i do 5 of them.

I placed 3rd in rimfire pistol and 1st in 'non senior' lol Florida land of RFRO....... with my CWA yesterday at a local L1 club match. Great day, had fun and met more cool people. Everyone asks what the CWA 'is'. Having only 4 months in now I claw towards 'A' classification and betterd 3 stages again.

I had one hiccup might have been a deformed round or I managed to load badly since I was busy loading scoring and painting as the youngest on my shorthanded squad. I didnt get to recover it to inspect. I was 14 stages in (shot a major 2 weeks ago) and a short practice between cleanings. I did clean it when i got home but still dont think that was root cause. I think it failed to chamber dont know I was in Smoke and Hope and just nailed the racker and kept going, i didnt get even a 2 hand grip again until engaging plate 1 in my long transition. ( I shoot 3-4-1-2-S for that). It was first round from a new mag since I had shot plate 1 so maybe pebkac but I dont recall a reslap as part of my clear maybe i did. Thats the first hiccup in like 1500-2000 rounds.

Gun smoothed up a bit more if one can imagine that. I dont shoot to slide lock anymore in practice and am still considering modding the followers to eliminate it.

Test firing it its super flat with 130PF ammo. I giggled, I'll admit it.... Also the only time i slapped on a new RDS sight and plate centered without any sight adjustments. Jut one of those meant to happen kinda of moments like omg yes cool.

I will shoot it alot more the next 3 days with Sat being a match and report back. I tried basic 115 (didnt chrono yet) , not hot stuff yet , like SnB those cook along. It probably likes those alot and 124s. I think 147s will feel cla-clunky but perhaps not, i do have a ton of them to use up though, and I expect they would work the brake alot less. Its a 6lb recoil spring progressive wolff. It probably does work with super slow and weak 100/115 loads but Im not into 85-100pf stuff even if i suck. Definitley not setup for major stuff, or anything pushing self-D like 140-150PF I think one would want to consider having a 7 or 8lb spring around. Outside of our purposes though.

It is a paperclip style FLGR not a toolless. Kinda dont care becuase well its a 6lb spring so not hard to manipulate. The alumn grip with the short brakes works for balance almost feels like the CWA kinda. Mine came hosed in oil, even feed ramp was wet. I cleaned it and left thier old in the slide rails then added Enos slide glide to the usual spots. They dont come with a cylcone mag button but its threaded for one. Would have been a nice touch to add that and maybe a toolless guide rod anyway one less thing to go wrong and that depends who we ask.

A tad heavier then a full size CWA but balance feels good. Fit is ok its not an $8k custom but for the price point im not complaining at all.
