New Buckmark on order

Yesterday, I ordered a Buckmark Field Target 5.5" Barrel Suppressor ready. I will pick it up this Friday. I am old and have had a lot of issues with red dot systems. Has anyone used the Buckmark Reflex Sight? How about a scope for pistols? Thinking maybe a Vortex Optics Crossfire 2. Looking forward to my first suppressor too.

Well this is mine and the green dot works well. I have used the suppressor on it, and is very quiet. and have others with scopes on them. I can't find a pic with it on mine right now but it is a viridian 2.0 dot in it. found it.

"I am old and have had a lot of issues with red dot systems. Has anyone used the Buckmark Reflex Sight?"

Reflex sights are a type of red dot sight, but not all red dot sights are reflex sights.

The 'Buckmark' Reflex Sight is just a rebranded Chicom sight. Nothing special about it other than having 'Browning' stamped on it.

That being said, old eyes (I'm 67) and RDS sometimes don't bode well together, especially if you suffer with astigmatism(s). Depending on the RDS, sometimes I'll see multiple dots close together or 'starbursts/flaring' of the dot. Sometimes I can control the amount by adjusting (dimming) the brightness of the dot. But the good news is I mostly use a RDS on my .22 pistol for varmint/pest control, and/or target shooting that I wouldn't consider 'Precision' shooting. And mostly within 25-30 yards. So, I can usually hit what I'm aiming at. 😁

Congratulations on choosing a great .22 pistol. You're going to love it. I've had my 5.5 Field since the early 90's and would never part with it. Never had one problem with it using a bunch of different ammo brands/types. It eats everything and is more that acceptably accurate at distances inside of 75 yards. Good Luck!

62-yard target is off a bench support, not off-hand. Burris FFII RDS.
40-yard target is off a bench support, too. AT3 Tactical RD-50 (non-Reflex type RDS).
Bottom pic is how I have it set up now with Browning Slim grips and Bushnell RDS250.

*P.S.- I have a Ruger MKIV 22/45 Lite, too. All stock except for the G10 grips and TK PRO muzzle device (mostly for a little added front weight). My BM is much more accurate and has a better factory trigger than my Ruger. I really don't shoot the Ruger much. If I had to get rid of one.....bye-bye Ruger.

I realize this is the Buckmark forum, but I am starting to shop for a precision 22LR pistol that won't break the bank.
I honestly don't know much about the Buckmark's. My brother in law had/has one but it had feeding issues and was quite finicky. I have no idea why.

So, what make the Buckmark preferable to the Ruger Mark IV for y'all?

Not looking to derail the thread just some honest pro's and con's of the two.
I want a Bull Barrel & a Threaded Barrel are my main requirements.
Tahnks.

The Buckmark and the Ruger Mark IV are roughly in the same category of price and accuracy. I would say you should try to handle and, preferably, shoot both to see which one you prefer. I prefer my Buckmark but that is just one man's opinion and there are just as many here on RFC that prefer the Ruger. I will say the Ruger has a lot more customization options if that is what you are into.

I have both a Buckmark and a Ruger MKIV 22/45. After dressing both up with aftermarket parts like Volquartsen and TacSol barrels, trigger kits, red dots, and more, I lean toward the MKIV, but mostly because of the ease of dissassembly for cleaning. Out of the box, I favored the Buckmark, because to me it just looked and felt like a more refined and sophisticated firearm.

Both pistols are far more accurate than I am, both before and after the aftermarket mods. On balance, the pistols perform more or less equally. If I had no intention of doing any aftermarket mods, my choice between the two might come down to price. If the aftermarket mods are a consideration, the MKIV has a lot more aftermarket goodies and support.

I stuck one of these on mine. Looks dorky but works well. Had to scavenge a low mount for it though, does not come with one.

After reading a lot of replies...thank you all. I have ordered a Leupold VX 1.5 x4 x20 scope and will wait till I get it before deciding on ring height low or medium. Plan on shooting off of a rest with this.
I also have a Ruger MK4 Competition that I am finally getting broke-in (stove pipe issues) with nearly all ammo except CCI MiniMags. Now only fails with SKS Match ammo maybe once per magazine.

I actually used the "browning " (sightmark) reflex sight on my buckmark, with great success. Out to 25y or so. Point and shoot. Not in for debate of other .22lr target pistols. Use whatever suits. I mostly shot offhand on paper. Sometimes one of those jumping targets. Kinda fun going from 10y or so to 50Y. Very accurate pistol. I put tac-sol barrel 4.5 threaded, or used original barrel. Unthreaded.

Thinking about getting a buckmark myself. I also have issues with red dots at 25 yards due to my astigmatism. i see stars and makes precise shots difficult (also that I am shooting a tx22 competition currently with a 3 moa dot). I think I might do better with a 1x scope than with a red dot (also wish someone could figure out a prism with extended eye relief).

Optics issues aside, my understanding is BMs are all basically the same inside? If so, i was thinking about getting a new camper 5.5” (under $300 new) and making the upgrades I would do anyway (tandemkross trigger, spring, etc, will get a pic rail for it, nicer grips, etc). Is there a good reason to buy a more expensive model?

TIA!

Field/Target comes WTH rail and threaded barrel if you ever want suppressor. I really like trigger that came with it. May do the flip on spring to lighten a bit. I have purchased a Leupold VX 1 x 4 x 20 scope it weighs 8 oz. But ) bought wrong hight rings to mount with unless I remove front sight. Also waiting on ATF to approve my suppressors.

Finally got the scope mounted, so far looks good, will take it to the range Monday to test it out. Ended up using Leupold low rings on top of a rail adapter. Scope is Leupold VX 1.5 x 4 X 20. The suppressor was finally approved and picked up this week. Thanks to Gun Store and Silencer Shop.com for getting the paperwork done! The suppressor is a Sparrow that fits nicely on my CZ457 and Christiansen Arms Ranger, and Browning Buckmark. Now if I can find a threaded barrell for my Smith & Wesson M&P 22WMR I will be very happy. arrached is pics on BuckMark

I have Leupold DeltaPoint Pro on my Buckmark. I’m long in the tooth as well, with a little astigmatism. However, you can get used to Red Dots with a little practice and once you do, you won’t go back. Or at least I haven’t. A red dot can get you on target fast and accurately.

I have a Browning Reflex sight on my Buckmark as well as my wife's. I think I paid about 70 or 80 bucks. It was the first red dot I ever used and was pleasantly surprised. I put one on the Buckmark I gave my oldest daughter as well. They have all performed well and hold zero perfectly. After experiencing the improvement red dots give my tired old eyes I have put more expensive ones on my centerfire pistols, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Browning sight for their pistols.
