Cool idea. Although I barely got Rifleman with irons, so I don't have to worry about rockers for a while!

 

I think it's a good idea, but too bad a patch wasn't made available for bolt action riflemen and centerfire.

Would also have been nice if the powers that be, had conducted a poll among the active Appleseeders, on the subject of rockers/patches and other forms of recognition.

 

The patches are available for bolt action riflemen and centerfire, just shoot a 230 or 240 depending on what type of sights you're using.

As far as the powers that be conducting a poll among the active Appleseeder's on the subject of rockers/patches. :read: The whole initiative came about as a result of instructor input on a forum thread.

For some people, nothing is ever good enough.:sad:

So I see nothing on the Appleseed web site about this. (I'll check out facebook).
However facebook isn't the same as the web site.

Any clarity about this would be appreciated.

I've shot dozens of riflemen scores higher than 240 with a bolt action using a scope.
So I have some interest in these patches, and I would definitely go for a 250 now that it's a "thing".

Update: Checked out facebook and they had an official statement stating that you will have to shoot a fresh target at a new Appleseed to qualify.

 

I support what they are trying to do, but the designation of "Distinguished Rifleman" is a long standing standard in american marksmanship and co-opting the name seems cheap.

That was bugging me too. The Army has different qual levels, iirc: Sharpshooter, Marksman, Expert? They should have just gone & used those, since the AQT is what they're basing their Rifleman scoring on anyway. Or used "Distinctive" instead: it sounds similar, but is different enough to prevent confusion. It would be great to earn the rocker, but I could never wear it unless I managed to make "Distinguished" w/ the CMP [which I fear I'm a little late in life to start off in pursuit of that title... ]

When you come to an Appleseed shoot to chase your advanced patches, be sure to bring a bunch of friends along with you. Remember, the real mission of Appleseed is to promote active citizenship.

 

Been chasing that 240 score for some time. Highest score for me is 238. I'm unable to use iron sights as my farsightedness prevents seeing just about any front sight clearly. So, scope for me.
