As some have been aware, I have been waiting for months for my new custom alum stock based on the Tesro design. Problem was there is no inletting that anyone does for these, and even harder to get someone to commit to things here in Canada.
Well I finally talked Tesro, Amir into it. Waited for what seems like for ever for them to bring in a stock from Germany, but I did finally get the call to send him my action for inletting.
I had already upgraded the trigger shoe, and long mag release before sending it out.
Well I did finally get the stock back the other night, and spent a few hours with it last night fine tuning and adjusting the stock for me. Final adjusting will have to take place on the bench at the range, hopefully Sunday afternoon.
There was by all intense and purpose minimal inletting that it required. Some internal work on mounting around the mag well, and new mounting bolt locations. One is just ahead of the trigger guard, and one is under the guard. Inletting for the mag well, as it did not have any, and for the recoil lug. They did add a recoil bar that also hits the empty spot under the action, as the existing recoil lug location did not have any place. It is solid. The stock 5 round fits perfect, even though I will probably be using the 10 round mag only.
The other major spot is for the rounded bolt, and the lower bolt sweep area. in the end it is really min inletting. I do have enough around the bolt that a pc of heavy paper slides in still, so that is perfect. I did have to sand this area a bit more than they removed, but that is minor. They did remove the majority as required, and I just felt the bolt rubbing a bit the last 1/2" before closing in on the action.
I will be going back down to the shorter magazine release, once Nordic has the new design one back in stock. I will also be looking at customizing the bolt handle a bit to better fit the new grip. It is cumbersome to use the thumb on top at the back of the bolt for closing, and now easier to just use the forward motion on the bolt handle. I will play with the grip position a bit once I'm at the range and adjust that, and work on a new drop bolt design to feel more comfortable. Probably go with a bigger protrusion on the back side of the drop handle to get the thumb to engage better for closing. More on that as I progress with it.
I will be cerekoting it sometime this winter, and just couldn't wait to get it together and using it again for the fall. We shall see how far I take that later.
Yes the barrel is centered, even though the photo shows it off center. Its just the angle of shot.
The trigger guard has to be moved to get at the other action screw. Yes the trigger shoe is slanted, and seems to be the most comfortable in that position with the grip.
It does have the full rail underneath to use my new mpod. I'll have to see at the range to see what rear bag I'll be going with, but will take a few options along.
I haven't quite decided if I will fill the bolt cutouts in with epoxy before the final cerekote work, but probably will, just so I don't have to look at them.
