As long as you don't mind cleaning them, they don't hurt anything. Muzzle devices and .22lr create work.

 

i had the same experience.

i can suggest a slightly longer knurled protector if you just want a little more protection

example dip sells a thread protector that sits flush or almost flush at .400

Yankee hill sells one that is .600 so it is just long enough to protect but not be a nuisance

It vents the gases better for me

I shoot mostly indoors. I use the Ruger Flash Suppressor which makes the smoke clear a bit faster. Though, it is cool to see the tendrils rising out of the muzzle when the gun is at rest on the bipods (which happens on my 18 1/2 in 10/22 barrel).

 

I had an A2 birdcage flash hider from an AR in my junk drawer I tried but it was heavy & bulky so I used an AR thread protector which is twice as long as the factory one. That does an excellent job of protecting the crown.

 

I posted a similar question about muzzle brakes not to long ago. I want one mainly because I like the way they look. But, bottom line is I cannot find one that will fit flush to the diameter of the barrel. If anyone knows of one please let me know.

 

I used this from Tactical. Although it is designed for the bull barrel, I just radiused the trailing edge a bit and don't mind the looks. Whether it has any advantage or not I don't know...but it does protect and I do like the look!!

 

I think it looks great, that is the option I will probably go with also. I talked to Jason at MADDMACS and he stated he could do a custom one for me. I will have that done at the same time I have him convert the grips on my Ruger 22/45.

 

I use a "sound forwarder" and it is so effective I don't need ear protection with subsonic round...worth doing.

 

Ebay has a muzzle brake blank that is drilled .25" and threaded 1/2x28. 5/8" /.625" diameter and 2" long. $12 shipped. It is meant to make into a custom muzzle brake.

Yes, put one on it looks cool. Although being a .22 it probably won't do much since there is very little recoil. The cool factor outweighs it.

 

I installed a $9.00 lite weight flash suppresser on my Charger to hide the flash as much as I can when hog hunting. And it looks cool.

I give them a plus, length of barrel, I assume stabling influence at a not barrel length for full 16 inch ignition, but they work for me. They enhance.

 

I use a sound director on my Charger...not a compensator or muzzle break, just makes the sound go forward away from the shooter. Got it from SAPA

 

It’s called a linear compensator, works surprisingly well with subsonic ammo. The KAW Valley comp on my Charger really reduces the report for the shooter.
