I thought that it would be interesting to see some of the Spiegel models that are out there. Please post pictures if you have one. Pictures of the disk on the pistol grip would be interesting as well. I don't have the original disks on any of my models.

S42M with Spiegel scope, I have the 4x and 8x tubes with this scope.

S46M with Spiegel scope, this one has the double reticle (cross hair or post reticle, pretty neat idea).

Well I sure don't understand why nobody replied here yet. Those are some fine Mossbergs, rare and even equipped with the finest scopes of the day.

Maybe most people here don't understand what you have there Rob.

Maybe if the members here had an idea of the numbers that these were produced they would appreciate them more.

I did post all the production numbers of the Spiegel Mossbergs and scopes here back in April.

Here's the Speigel info:
I acquired this info from a fellow National Mossberg Collectors Association member so I'm posting it here for all to share.

I have an S42 that is in the process of me refinishing it.
It's the one I got cheap because some idiot sprayed the action with Gun Kote and put a muzzle brake on it. It was silver, pretty spiffy
The gun Kote came off with no problems in the blasting cabinet.
It has a few pits, mostly in the action. The lettering looks better than when if was filled with the finish.
It's going to finish up really nice and although I'd like for it to have been original, the guy I got it from ruined that idea.

I think there were something like 450 built for several years in a row, so it's not rare, but not a run of the mill one either.
I think it's going to look fine when done. It has a Walnut stock and I've got all the parts.

The one's posted were beautiful rifles, I sure enjoy seeing them.

Now I want to go back in time with a fist full of money and order all those nice $26.00 rifles, I'd even spring a few extra dollars for the scopes, beautiful rifles all.

The holes are there in the bottom of the grip, but the disc is long gone. I don't know much history of this rifle other than my personal history with it. This rifle is one of the things my father gave to me when I finished High School. He had it for quite a long time, but I never asked about his history with the rifle...might have to do that.

The first time I shot this rifle, I was 14 or 15. My dad and I went to the range and when we got there, realized we had forgotten the targets. Since no one was around we set up anyway and, using the circle front sight, at 50 yards I started shooting down the torn corners of targets that had been taken down...I just couldn't miss with it. That's when my dad said the rifle and I were meant for each other...just took a few more years to get it.

The best I can tell, it's all original and I think it's an honest 85% gun. Unfortunately, during a move, the front sight hood came off and the front sight blade (circle) was snapped off. Also, the rear right was pushed a little bit too far and slightly bent the pin. I'm not going to lie, it hurt badly to see that. I searched and found a replacement sight blade, but I wasn't willing to spend the $25 on it. Luckily, a member here (MOTT...don't know if he is still around), hooked me up with just the blade. As for the back sight...on the way home from a vacation, I stopped at Sarco in NJ to check it out...lo & behold, in a dusty glass cabinet in a corner near the back of the store, I found a box of old rear peep sights. After digging thru it, I found 2 correct rear sights! They were stripped of screws & springs, but the base, arm and pin were all there and in great shape. So, for $14 out the door, I was a happy man!

The rifle is back to it's former glory, but I don't shoot it much anymore...actually, I haven't shot it in well over 5 years, probably closer to 10, and possible more. At some point (after putting thousands of rounds down it's tube), I decided that I wanted my own, brand new 22 rifle. So, it's since been retired until my kids get old enough to use and enjoy it. It won't be the first rifle they shoot (that will be the Savage M24 I learned on), but they will graduate to it and I can't wait!

Some really nice rifles in this thread.

Here is my 43S. The stock was pretty beat up with cracks and nail holes when I bought it so I had to do a complete refinish in contrast to some of the nice ones in this thread. However, otherwise the rifle was complete with all hardware and only lacking the Spiegel medallion. And it shoots great too :)

Here are a few pics with some before and after shots.
