Really like the Herrits.

 

The Herrits feel very 1911ish to me. The po did the bob on them. I have long fingers and the original 41 grips feel big. They do feel good with the contours and swells but are large. I would think they would be huge to the average hand.

What’s the po and bob? Does that mean back of butt was rounded off? I have small hands and have been looking for a deal on some flat grips. Made set out of some beaters I bought. I have Herrets on a 52 which I really like.

 

I like the original grips but would like to find a set or the Herrett trainers for my Dad.

 

I know this is an older thread but my grandpa picked up some herret trainer grips at a garage sale and I just saw your post about it. Are you still interested in them?

Yes it is. I have a couple. I’ve also used them on my .45 pcc’s. I had to remove the rear sight on the 41 to get the FF as far to the rear as my rail would let me so it would fit in my thigh holster. I only wish it had an auto on/off.

 

Recently sold my 41 but it was sporting the Herrett's Trainers.

 

Not sure of the manufacturer but these fit my hand perfectly...

 

Is the barrel with reddot a cut down 7 inch barrel?

 

I believe its a factory barrel. There is no sign of re-bluing. But I am not 100% sure.

 

I have two model 41 pistols and would be a customer if anyone has left-hand target grips to sell. PM welcome.

 

Herrett is still in business I believe. They have a website where you can look at what they offer. The standard selection is not as large as it once was, but they also offer some custom grips. You might want to check them out and/or call them. I bought a custom set for one of my pistols and they are quite nice, but I did have to "fit" them a bit. I will admit they are not inexpensive.

Got '41 in 1964 with factory grips; immediately sent hand outline to
Herrett and got their competition grips; few years ago installed
a pair of Randall Fung grips.

German Formgriffe and original grips. The Formgriffe gives the pistol a 1911 feel.

Herrett H41 Grip:

 

Is the contour of the H41 grips much wider than the Formgriffe grips? I’m looking for a grip that’s closer to a 1911 feel but Herrett no longer makes their Trainer grips which fit that profile and I looked at the Formgriffe website and don’t see the grips you posted. If you have a link to the Formgriffe’s or wouldn’t mind sharing how you ordered them, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise I might try the Herret H41’s. Thanks for your help

Yes, I can just slide a business card between the scope and the rear sight. I found I like the balance better with the Ultradot positioned over my hand instead of further out on the barrel.

 

Those checkered Nills are beautiful.

 

I got my Nill's from Dominion Hobby. They show currently out of stock but they used to get them in regularly. Perhaps worth a message?

Rosewood on my 41. I think old Hogue. Barrel is 5-inch sport.

 

This is mine, manufactured in 1963 and as I use it for bulls eye shooting I have the Nill competition grips on it and I keep the old original and a new set original on the side.

 

Now I’m freaked out again with pictures of Herret Trainer grips for 41. There must be about 4 variations. WTH, is it the time period your grips came from or the guy whittling them out. In last couple months I’ve had two variations. The variation now on 41 has slight a1 type swell at bottom.
Pics show model with no swell. .??? Top is one I have now, bottom pic is what I just took off. Now will be looking for set like post #3.

 

I can't remember which Herrett grips I got for my son's Model 41 pistol.

They were supposed to fit like a flat mainspring housing Government Model. I think they were like this. My son and I both thought they felt more like an M9 Beretta.

It looks like Rinks has discontinued their Model 41 Formgriffe.
