Will it shoot as tight of groups as their bolt guns do, and will it hold up for the long run like a 10/22 will? Thanks, Mac:bthumb:

they shure are worth it ! :bthumb:The marlin is pretty impressive. I would agree it's as accurate as a bolt action in it's same dollar class. Now I have a bull barrel bolt marlin and at 50 yards the bolt is more accurate. However at 25 the semi auto 60 is :Blasting_
The only problem with the model 60 is some people (myself included) have had scope mounts slide down the reciever. BKL mounts solve that problem but do recognize that they do cost like 50 bucks.
I love my 60 though :bthumb:
i didnt know ? you could wear one out ?I own no less than FIVE Marlin Model 60s, the last of which I picked up about 2 weeks ago. (early 1980s manufacture, perfect unfired condition).
My very first 'real' gun was a Marlin Model 60 that of course I still have. I got it for Christmas in 1985. Over the years I have accumulated more of them. They are as addicting as Ruger 10/22s are. (I have five of those too!)
All of my 60's have always been reliable, and VERY accurate. Any one of them can outshoot my Rugers any day of the week! They are as accurate as my Marlin bolt guns as well.
They are fun, reliable, rifles. I have not worn one out yet!
Good Shooting!
great post .. :bthumb: :bthumb: :bthumb:Echoing what a few others have said here, the Model 60 was my first real rifle purchase as well. I bought it at K-Mart in the late 80's on my 18th birthday. I have shot 10's of thousands of rounds through it and it has never failed me. It has put many meals on the table as well. Mine is very acurate as well, I have a 2-5x old Weaver on mine and its accuracy rivals that of my 882 ssv 22 mag bolt with a 6-24x AO scope. I haven't spent as much time with the 882 yet, but it should have been able to beat the mod 60 right out of the box. My main reason for buying the 882 over other models was that it was a Marlin and I based that purchase on the positive experience I had with the model 60.
Since my early years in the gun world when I purchased my Model 60 I have bought, built, accurized and shot other guns from 22mag, 22-250, 7mm-08, 7mm Rem Mag and I think it is still more fun to sit down and run a couple hundred rounds through the model 60. It is just plain fun to shoot.
I can honestly say that when I bought my model 60 I really wanted a 10/22 but I didn't have the money. My budget narrowed me down to the model 60 or a plastic clad Cherokee (Remington??). Needless to say, I bought the model 60 and have never regretted it. One of my buddies that was more well off than me at the time bought a nice laminated 10/22. Over the years he was NEVER able to outshoot me with my model 60.
I recently picked up another model 60 at a gunshow. It is a bit older than my first one and it has the squirrels on the stock. Other than being a little dirty, it was in great shap and a bargain for a 20 dollar bill. I have plans to get out the fiberglass and bondo and customise the stock on this one. Maybe top it off with a trick paint job. Who knows....
Model 60's are great guns, and I too believe that they are VERY underrated. I just wish there were more aftermarket accessories available for them.
