How can I improve the accuracy of my marlin 781? 20 yds off a rest. All 5 shot groups. Just got the Aguila and cci today.
Scope leupold 4-12ao.

Is the rifle new to you? I'd start by cleaning the barrel really good. Then check the mounts and bases to make sure everything is tight. Next, I'd do like you've done above and continue trying different flavors of ammo. Be sure and shoot 20 or so rounds through the cleaned barrel before actual group testing. I've seen a few 22 mag rifles that only favored a few flavors out of the many available. How's the trigger on it? Sometimes they can be improved upon just by polishing/buffing. I'm not familiar with your exact rifle, but adjusting by replacing strength in springs might be possible too.

Yes the rifle is new to me in the early 80’s. It was a gift from girlfriend and now wife. It didn’t shoot accurately then either. Back then had it drilled and tapped and mounted rifle bases and weaver rings and that didn’t help. So it just sat in the cabinet. Can’t be 150 shot through it. I did clean it with #9 and brush. Made no difference. I didn’t change the trigger spring on it. I did on a few other marlins that I have. And that does make a difference. I had it in a sight vice so I was pretty steady .

I wouldn't use that for ammo testing or group shooting. It is for securing the rifle to work on it, imo not near heavy and solid enough for what you are doing.
If you set up in even a fair set of 'sandbags' with you lightly holding it (ie, do not clamp down on it) with your shoulder behind it my guess it will group better.

Once you have doen what everybody else suggested…
Sandbags for a rest, reshoot groups with the ammo you currently have.
I bet you’ll find something as good or better than that Aguila group.

I am still shooting 20+ year Federal 550 bulk ammo out of a Marlin 780 that groups better at 25 yards just resting on sandbags and elbows. You’ll eventually find an ammo it likes, then stack it deep! Im down to about three of this lot of bulk packs, then I get to look for another ammo.

Good luck!
