Here is my CZ 457 American with a maple stock. Sold out everywhere but somehow I was able to find this brand new earlier this week. It was a blemish model so it saved me a few hundred bucks too. The blemish, I think, is a small indent on the left side that I can barely feel. This is my first bolt action and I don't have a scope for it. I have never even looked at scopes before and I am immediately overwhelmed at the options and choices and now I'm considering irons.

It depends a bit on what maple was used. I would hope they used Sugar Maple, Which is harder and denser than Walnut in general. There is Red Maple as well, and that is very similar hardness to Black Walnut, maybe a bit softer. It shows the kind of figure you see on that stock a bit more often than Sugar Maple, so that could be a tell, but not definitive.
I don't know if CZ imports American maple wood, or if there are the same species of trees where they manufacture. I just know North American hardwoods, so that's the viewpoint I'm commenting from. ;)

Very Nice, Rimfire scopes are set to be parallax free @ 50 yards vs 100 yds for a centerfire. Th CZ requires an 11 mm dovetail rings. CZ or companies like EGW offer picatinny rail adapters if you chose to use that type of mount. Though not rimfire scopes, Arken Optics offers some fantastic glass at very affordable prices and their 1-8 is first focal plane.

Arken Optics offers a 1-6 Second focal plane scope for$199.99 and a 1-8 x 28 first focal plane scope for $349.99. I have several of their products and they are good quality. I am using one of their 5-25 x56 FFP scopes on my CZ 457 MTR and one on my Bergara B-14R for long rang rimfire shooting.

That is a beautiful stock!

I completely understand getting overwhelmed by all the scope choices on the market.

If you are more used to shooing irons, might I suggest a Hawke red dot? They are one of the only recommendable brands that I know of at the moment that offers dovetail mounted models (otherwise you would have to add an ugly riser/adaptor).

I agree that a old, glossy Leupold would probably go best with the aesthetic of the gun, but personally I feel the red dot would give the rifle a sleek European vibe.

Congratulations on the great find!

That's good info thanks 🙂 it looks good and from what you've said is likely to be quite tough too. My only reservation would be that it might show up scuffs etc. I guess you aren't planning on dragging it along the ground though 😁

The scope should be here on Saturday. There is smallbore silhouette match on Sunday I'd like to attend. I haven't shot silhouette, or any rifle, in probably 8 years and I wasn't a good shot back then. It wont be any easier with a new rifle and scope without any practice. Ohh well, the joy is in the shooting, not the results.

I recently got an American 22lr and needed a scope. I found that MidwayUSA had a nice sale on Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42 for 199.00. So I bought one. It has parallax adjustment down to 30yrds. For my use it works great. Fits well on the rifle. Seems to be plenty accurate for 50yrd groups.
