Lothar Walther Barrels

I have a CZ-455 and I'm considering buying a Lothar Walther 20.5 inch heavy barrel for it. I know LW makes replacement barrels for several model .22 rifles and I'd like to hear the opinions and experiences of other members here who have bought and used LW barrels.

For the general reader, as an observation from the "equipment lists" of BR competitions, there haven't been many LW barrels on top-scoring BR rigs used by the most serious of competitors. Of course that's not to say they can't make the most of a CZ rifle and offer real improvement over the factory barrel.

It's always worth keeping in mind that no barrel will make inconsistent ammo perform like something else. No rifle can outshoot the ammo it's given.

I am quite pleased with my CZ457 Walther barrel. I would buy from them again.

Cannot remember definitely, but I think KIDD uses them as a blank provider as well.

A few high end airgun manufacturers use them for their OEM barrels IIRC.
I think you're right. I remember reading that somewhere...may have been on Kidd's site. They get their blanks from L.W. Germany, then hand lap them.

I had a L.W. barrel (in .17 HM2) on my 457 MTR (now on a 455 Stainless), and am quite happy with the accuracy. I don't shoot paper, but plinking the primer out of 12 gauge shells at 50 yards is so easy, it's almost boring.

I don't own one but do remember reading somewhere recently that a customer got a " sub-par LW barrel" from Optics Planet and LW wouldn't honor the warranty. He stated that they told him they only warranty their barrels when purchased directly. I can't vouch for that info, just passing it on as a data point.

I recieved my LW barrel measured the barrel and action and came up with .046 headspace if my math is correct . It likes sk long range but loves lapua longe range . just for fun i added a .004 bolt shim and the lapua is making some nice one hole groups ,couldn't be happier other then the fact i didnt want a threaded barrel ,imay have my smith cut it back an inch and recrown, also my barrel has no markings for caliber or maker but i dont care about that now. Stay safe all

I have one on one of my 457s and it initially suffered from extraction problems:
On a clean chamber after only 5-6 rounds, so with just a touch of fouling it would stop extracting, and I decided to make a jig in order to polish the chamber from the correctly sized felt tip and a drill stop so the tip wouldn't go past the leade area. I used Flitz which, depending on who you talk to runs 6,000 - 8,000 grit (Simichrome and Mag polish are ~ half that, more abrasive).
Anyway, the op worked, even if at a cost - one of the most esteemed RFC members and my favorite posters called me "Bubba" :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: 🤦‍♂️, but now the rifle with that barrel hangs right in there with the 3 Liljas, and I do recommend the LW barrels.
One thing already mentioned above that imo is worth repeating is that, depending where/how you buy it it may or may not come with a thread protector - mine didn't and it took me every bit of $150 in various protectors that based on the stated dimensions should fit but didn't to finally find one that was "ok".
Here is something else to consider, you are saving... $170 (not including the protectors :ROFLMAO: 🤦‍♂️) over the Liljas and imo this amount should be put in the context of one's small arms budget . Neither one is in stock right now btw.

Ahhhh, primers….a group were shooting an extremely accurate scoped 52 Winchester.

Einstein decided to stick a .50BMG in a hole in the pallet they were using as a target board and 1st shot hit the primer.

Without injury, there miraculously appeared a hole in the side of the house…..right between everybody
