Just got this Ruger Mark IV package. It's like getting two guns for the price of ONE! It came with a nice range bag, firearm, a competition bull barrel with a optic, 3 mags, and a holster.
Headed to the range.

Ruger Mark IV's are tack-drivers right out of the box – one of the most accurate .22 pistols for the money. The bull barrel models like yours especially shine with match ammo (think CCI Standard or SK). What really sets them apart is that takedown button – cleaning is stupid easy compared to older Marks.
The trigger could use some love (Volquartsen kit fixes that), but even stock they'll outshoot most shooters. Try it at 25 yards first – you'll be impressed how tight they group. Just avoid bulk ammo if you want to see what it can really do.

Sweet find! That Mark IV package has everything you need to hit the range running. The bull barrel with optic ready to go is a huge plus – you’re basically set for plinking, competition, or just looking cool at the bench. Three mags and a holster? Even better.
Let us know how it shoots — especially with that barrel setup. Mark IVs are stupid fun right out of the box, and that one looks ready to party. Congrats on the score!

I have a Hämmerli Mod. 215, but have shot (and dismantled and cleaned) the old blued Ruger Mk II 512, that my local gun club had in its stock, many times.

I always liked it. If I had to decide again which .22 pistol to buy today, I would probably choose a Mk IV. Although I'd feel the urge to buy an old S&W Mod. 17 Revolver first...

With you on the Smith 17. I have a MKII and a MK III. The 2 is nicer than the 3 but they are awesome. I also have a number of High Standards and a 41. As for the Vq trigger, it's definitely better than the stock MKII and I do recommend it but not there with the High Standard pistols. I shoot the MKII quite a bit.

I have a related question. I bought a MkIV 'Hunter.' It is a stainless steel pistol that I shoot reasonably well. I bought a 5+" heavy barrel (black/blue) to use with the frame (receiver) so I would not have to demount a red dot when I wanted to shoot with iron sights. I received word from Ruger that the plain barrel is not compatible with the Hunter body. I do not understand that. I had written to then because I had a few jams using inexpensive ammo.

Does anyone else have experience with this common combination?

Hi- I have a stainless target Mk iv, more than 1 blued “uppers” and a VQ mamba upper. I also have VQ and matrix precision bolts, plus Ruger bolts (Both stock and most with VQ extractors).

in my experience (several thousand round) blued Ruger uppers jam the same as my stainless upper- with same bolts, same extractor, same mags, same ammo. The VQ jams less(as expected).

If you continue to have problems- i personally would recommend trying different ammo, checking your mags, and installing a VQ extractor first, and see if that helps. If not, then consider buying a performance bolt.

Hope this helps and works for you
