Landed a couple Lilja barrels...22WMR, 17M2

I've always had a crush on the .22WMR and have a stock 10/22M as well as one with a Lilja bull barrel in a Boyds stock. People slam the magnum because it doesn't have match ammo available, but the Lilja combo is astonishing. I don't do much group shooting, it gets rotated through with the rest of the fleet for critter duty. I've shot plenty of 9 shot groups at sub MOA with this rifle over the years, I have 100% confidence in its ability to throw down a good group, or hit what I shoot at.

I wanted an accurate bolt gun in .22WMR, so I picked up a 452 Varmint, it failed to deliver anything near what the 10/22 could, at half the distance. I then picked up a well known bolt gun from a neighboring European country and it was without a doubt the most inaccurate rifle I've ever fired. Seven types of ammo, smallest group was around an inch, but most were in the 2-3" range with CCI Maxi Mag running in the 4-6" range!....I've got a Tanfoglio Appeal (bullpup) with a red dot that beats the pants of this high end euro gun with a Leupold.

I ended up collecting a large fleet of .17HMR rifles, so my 455 Canadian HMR ended up being the donor as it was the red headed (stocked) stepchild of my collection. Lilja says that their contour fills the barrel channel better than stock. It does, and I need to do some sanding to float it.

In the past year, I've managed to collect 2000 rounds of 17M2. I picked up a Marlin 917 or 817, I don't remember, a blued, HB laminate stock rifle. I've had it to the range exactly once, and fired 15 shots, I was very happy with the little clusters it delivered. I like unique things, and I tend to be a bit of a collector (hoarder) of small caliber rifles.

I lucked into picking up one of the last 2 varmint contour 17M2 barrels for the 455 off Lilja. While waiting for the barrel I found a mint, used 455 Varmint.

I installed both barrels tonight, I'll get the barrel floated on the WMR and mount up some scopes. I plan on shooting them this weekend and hopefully my quest for an accurate .22WMR bolt gun will be satisfied and the 17M2 will live up to the Marlin. If I shoot 100 rounds of M2 a year, it'll last me 20 years:)

I gave both of the pull off barrels to one of my friends, he laughed and said he needs to buy another 455 now. I think he is going to do the sightless FS conversion with the Canadian HMR barrel.
