Kimber K22 and Remington Magazines

The question comes up regularly. Will a Remington 511 magazine work in a New York Kimber. Some say yes and some say no. Here is a comparison of the mags to show a difference that is the likely cause of some Remingtons not working. I have tested Remington mags a couple of times with mixed success. They tended to catch on the top front just before latching into the K22. Look at the photos and you can see that the factory Kimber mags are rounded and polished there while the Remingtons and Wisner Remington clones are not. Last photo shows a Wisner copy and a factory Remington.
If a Remington is modified to match the Kimber it should work?

Are Rem 511 mags available anywhere?

Actually, it looks like Rem 511s would probably continue to work in the 511s after your suggested modification. So why not try it and see if it works in a Kimber?

It's near impossible to make an accurate decision from pictures. But since it's YOUR magazine, I really think it's gonna work. What have I got to lose, after all....

The Remington mag will work...with the modifications shown in your pictures, plus bending the follower to match the Kimber follower. Also, may need to tweak the feed lips to match the Kimber.
I made a 10 round magazine to fit my K22 this way, and substituting a Kimber baseplate and follower obtained from Numrich...looks like factory Kimber.
It works, but have patience and time to tinker.

I bought a couple several years ago, never got around to trying them as I already had four Kimber mags. I also found Numrich selling Kimber mags a few years ago and I bought ten, may part with them someday. Some Kimber mags benefit from tuning them by adjusting the follower to present the loaded round at the correct angle for smooth feeding.
Pics of Kimber tuned mag on left, Remmy mag on right.

I just bought my first K22 -- an HS -- and I have a bunch of those Wisner/Remington mags that I bought quite awhile ago to use in my Coopers (and they've worked fine). I'm still awaiting Warne bases to mount a scope on the K22 so haven't had a chance to try any of those Wisner/Remington mags at the range. I have put several of them into the rifle and they seat well (and look to be in the proper position to feed rounds), and eject cleanly. So I'm hopeful. :) 🤞
