I really would like to try one, and they’re cheap. What concerns me are the reviews. Some seem to run flawless, and others not so much. For $200 I’d like to have one , but if it’s gonna be a headache I’d rather keep my $$. What say you folks that own them? Btw I’ve never owned Keltec anything.

I own two purchased within the last year,,,
They both run flawlessly with HV bulk ammo.

The original release did have problems,,,
But Kel-Tec seems to have fixed their problems.

I know several people who own them just because of the price,,,
They keep and enjoy them because of their performance.

They are not precision target pistols by any means,,,
But they are easily "minute of paper plate" at 25 yards.

The adjustable rear sight is very easy to adjust,,,
They even include the proper allen wrench.

$14.99 magazines are a great bonus as well.

I give mine the Aarond H. Graham Stamp of Approval.

Just yesterday I and a buddy of mine,,,
'Sent 200 rounds downrange through each pistol with no failures.

I am one of those who purchased because the price was too good, my local store in Columbus had them a couple times between Thanksgiving and the second week of January for $159.99 brand new with the 3 magazines.
Mine has had zero issues shooting CCI mini-mags, its a fun little plinking gun and quite accurate

Zero issues with mine shooting any crap ammo I use.

After watching a few bad reviews, it appears that "most" of the problems come from people having issues with ONE type of ammo (Remington subsonics, for instance), and then despite the gun (with ZERO break in and NO cleaning) running fine with every other ammo, they get all holier than thou about the Keltec being a crap gun and EVERY gun should run EVERY crap ammo on the planet...which demonstrates their ignorance more than exposing any flaws in the gun.

Who-tee-hoo just bought one. he couldn't get through one mag without it jamming. He took it apart and cleaned it, said it was full of junt and metal shavings. Tried again (but with a suppressor, so that may make a difference) and it ran much better but still jammed with a certain ammo. Forgot what ammo. I've only one one keltec. Because of my experience, its the first and last. they have cool ideas, but the quality seems to be subpar, theres a reason for all the bad reviews. I've had problems with both Sig pistols I own too. But no problems out of any taurus (owned several) or glock. Ruger, yes. Smith and wesson, no. Even though I put my trusy in Glock, I decided against buying their .22lr because of the bad reviews and regrettably buying a sig p322. And to think I sold a perfect functioning taurus tx22 to get a jam o matic. smh

Who-tee-hoo just bought one. he couldn't get through one mag without it jamming.....
He then released another video after getting torched in his comments, and found out the gun runs FINE with anything other than the Remington subs he was trying. It even ran the bucket of Thudderbolts just fine.

I love these YouTube wunderkinder that get paid to hawk products and have zero professional credentials. Unlike Taurus that shipped the first batch of TX22s with defective barrels, KelTec , as far as I know, has not had any widespread problems with the P17. Any mass-produced low-cost pistol will have some issues, but KelTec stands behind its products.

Some of the early P17's had problems. Keltec added a small part which supposedly made the gun run a lot better. See MCARBO's video.

I carry one around the homestead because it's very lightweight, and I mainly use it for scaring off crows and whatever armadillo or other critter I might come across.

I only shoot CCI MINIMAG HP's in mine, and I have never had any problems.

The TX22 that I had would shoot anything I put in it, but the P17 was smaller and lighter and fit my needs.

I need another 22 handgun about as badly as I need a sore toe but have been looking at posts about both the Keltec and Taurus . I have never seen a Keltec anything that tweaked my interest until the P17. Taurus will probably win out as I have owned several Taurii centerfire handguns over the years that never gave any trouble even though the TX is uglier than the Keltec.

I see the ammo thing with subsonic ammo thing as like Phoenix users saying they shoot HV and eventually have cracked frames when the manual tells you to only shoot subsonic ammo. That's on you, not the firearm.

Why won't a gun shoot a certain brand of ammo? I have no idea. I bought an early Colt AR 15-22 and it will not feed golden bullets. I spent quite a bit of time with a micrometer and magnifying glass comparing ammo with no luck finding most of the cheaper stuff pretty much identical. It works fine with anything except golden bullets. That same GB supply worked just fine in other semi-autos but not the Colt. I bought a fairly early Ruger SR 22. With any HV ammo it's dependable as a rock including those golden bullets but will not function with subsonic ammo. That is because of the design and is not a failing of the gun. My wife has one of the newer Walther PPK/s 22 pistols and it is like the SR 22. Any HV ammo is good, subsonic isn't. Read the owner's manual.

I loaded 3 mags with 10 rounds, and did 3 quick mag dumps at 6 paces. Shots were a couple inches low, but I haven’t touched the rear sight. The p17 is so lightweight it’s crazy. It truly feels like a toy, and being light it actually has a bit of recoil. Once I got a firm grip it was easy to shoot fast. I’ve got to take it to the range before I give it a thumbs up, but so far I like it. If I hadn’t seen someone else make a thread about it a few days ago I wouldn’t have known it existed.

I might go get one. I can fix it if it doesn't work anyways. I'm pretty good at making whatever run and function correctly. My lcp 380 max was a complete basket case when i got it. Jammed on the second round. Yikes. My Ruger 5.7 also was not returning the slide all the way forward. Fixed those. Now they function flawless. I like the idea of having a light throwaway (as in if something happens to it, my feelings won't be hurt) pistol for my BOB. Still not a fan of keltec, but I want to be. I'd like a PMR30 .22 mag pistol too, but after reading and watching videos on it, I bought the 5.7 instead. Its basically a centerfire .22 mag. Mine holds 29 rounds.

Jive Turkey, I adjusted the sights on both of my K17's with the included wrench. You can adjust for windage and elevation and it is very easy. Took me a while to get them both perfect. I just made small corrections every time a shot a group and now all groups are centered up perfectly on my aimpoint. Half a revolution is enough to move your POI about 0.75" at 10 yard target.

I adjusted it a quarter turn up, and fired 30 more rounds yesterday at 8-9 yards. It was still a tad low. Sunday or Monday I’ll get it to the range, and get it where I want it. I really think the pistol is a good deal for what it is. I think it would be great just to keep in my truck. It should make a decent piece to carry around the mountains hunting ginseng. Already went through my box of holsters, and found one that fit well.
