I use medium grade bronze wool strands wrapped around a used bore brush for the bore and wrapped on the end in a ball once inserted through the barrel into the cylinder well of the frame for the forcing cone, it strips the lead out easily. Use it dry.

 

How about a bronze brush and some good solvent? Works fine on my K22.

 

I flattened the end of a spent .22WMR case and use it as a scraper when the lead builds up around the cone of my 617. Finish by polishing with patches cut from one of those lead removal rags (for stainless only). Not the easiest but it works, I try to not let it build up too much.

 

Get some Chore Boy copper scrubber pads and wrap a few strands around your brass brush. Make sure you get the pure copper, not the copper plated. A few strokes and it's lead free.

 

I've never had a .22 barrel lead up bad enough to require what you describe.

 

Boy, I have! What took it right out for me was a genuine USGI M16 bore brush. I keep one in my shooting bag to scrub out the chambers of .22 revolvers ever 50 rounds to so (and a small toothbrush to scrub under the extractor) to keep everything nice and smooth and spinny.

Bring a magnet when you go shopping -- if it sticks to the "copper" Chore Boy, it's the plated version...
