They are owned by S&W who shut them down and put them up for sale. They were just recently purchased by new owners but I don’t believe they’re selling anything yet.

 

I'm hoping the bring back their great frames and barrels from years ago!

 

 

I have a couple of the new SSK-50. I don't think they are as classy looking as the original but are well made. You can now find barrels in stock on Midway.

 

I was lucky enough to have had a coworker with a mess of Contender items. He wanted to sell all of it in one lot and I was lucky enough to decide to buy all of it. All Gen 1, I had no idea what I was getting into but once I realized what I had I was very happy, even more so today.

I sure hope the new Contender barrels are compatible with Gen 1. Maybe I better watch the video.

 

I have been thinking about possibly buying one of those. Would really like to see what kind of shooter a 22LR barrel model might be. I take it that those do have a factory trigger that is adjustable for pull weight, pre-travel and over-travel, is that correct ?

The early non easy open are the only one I have trouble with barrel fit. Not the fit but doesn't want to open with the newer split locking bolts. Dedicated a 45/410 barrel to that one.
The easy open & new SSK-50 have the over travel screw and they do have somewhat of a adjustable trigger. I've never got it super lite but they are very crisp. My first contender came with a super 14" barrel in 22lr. That gun made rimfire fun again for me. It was also the first one I tried to customize for my self. Have posted it before. The barrel is now threaded and has a pistol scope.

Honestly, I'm kind of regretting buying a G2. I didn't realize how much worse the trigger was. It's certainly crisp but heavy. Might look into a SSK-50.
