Is the Tikka T1X a dissappointment?

I have not been on this forum for a while. I was debating on waiting for a T1x or buying a CZ455 quite a few months ago. Well I ended up going with the 455 but was still contemplating adding the T1x to my stable. From all the reports ive been reading, it seems the t1x is kind of a let down which stinks. My 455 22lr barrel will shoot under 1inch groups at 100 yards with many different bulk box ammo offerings with some groups approaching half an inch which is just amazing and my 17hmr barrel will consistently group under 1.5inches at 100 yards with most ammo and will group under 1 inch occasional with a few offerings which is decent enough. I feel lucky with this rifle but now I'm not sure what to buy as a second rifle. Any thoughts from any of you Tikka owners? Should I move away from the Tikka and look back at maybe a cz457 or another cz455?

You will probably never find another rifle that shoots bulk ammo as well as you say your CZ 455. It is literally unbelievable accuracy.

I've been quite happy with my T1x 22. Shot great out of the box and is just getting better. It could very well surpass my best CZ, we'll see. That's a pretty tall order but it is shooting better at this stage of it's life than any of my CZ's have at the same point.
Disappointment? Certainly not.

I'd have to see this to believe it.

I absolutely love mine its everything I hoped it would be and the action after a few hundred rounds is buttery smooth. The trigger is excellent and easy to adjust to 2 pounds or a little less. At its price point I don't know how it gets much better. It'll shoot sk standard or norma match 22 into 1/4 inch or less at 50 yds.

I have 2 CZ 455, 22lr and 17hmr. both will shoot near 0.5 moa out to 150yds. I just got a T1X and just had my first range trip. ://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/range-report-for-t1x.3968853/

My T1X is not a disappointment. It needs to live up to what my CZ's will do, so far it has a good start. I was looking into another 455 or 457, I am glad I got the Tikka.

I'm very happy with my T1x

I was skeptical at first due to all the plastic on the rifle. Not the stock so much as the other plastic parts. The stock is perhaps the best molded plastic stock that I own. The gripping surface of the stock is really nice. I put the vertical pistol grip on mine, sanded out the shoe horn and installed a lighter trigger spring (thank you Sir Ville). It is done! Low rings with a Nikon 3-9x40 scope. Groups under .4" at 50 yards, 17 oz. trigger and a stock that fits me nicely. IMHO, If you can accept the plastic it is a great little rifle. Also the metal work is not finished to a high luster but it is first rate.

wow you seem upset about my comment. Feel free to continue pounding your chest. I have nothing to prove. I am a squirrel hunter and that is all. My CZ does in fact shoot sub 1 MOA groups (out to 100 yards is furthest ive tested it) with several types of bulk ammo and it does consistently shoot in the .5-.75inches with a few different higher end offerings of ammo as well. All I truly need for a squirrel rifle is 1.25inch at 100 yards accuracy since 99% of my shots are under 75 yards anyways so if the Tikka's are still producing those numbers, then I will be back at looking at them. The only reason I came here is I noticed on quite a few other forums, about half the Tikka owners were not impressed. They were having cycling issues and accuracy issues. They stated things like the magazines were junk and the stock had a weird barrel bedding block thing under the barrel. Go check youtube and you will see a few videos showing poor accuracy. Maybe those were flukes and people with good shooters simply haven't posted any videos yet. Again, check all my other threads. I am NOT a CZ fanboy. I have owned a few Rugers, and Savage in the past and they were decent shooters. The Savage was weird because it would at best shoot 1.5-2inch groups with bulk ammo but with match ammo (I forget the brand but I can check when I get home) it was hitting .75inch groups at 100 yards consistently. The 10-22 I had was a consistent 1.5inch gun.

Just picked up my t1x today from my FFL. I ordered the 17hmr fom witickers roughly 9 months ago. I've got to say it is one very smooth action rifle, it feels very solid despite the non wood stock. The trigger is very impressive, fit and finish is also impressively great. I've also been watching YouTube videos rifle reviews on the t1x's. If this good looking solid feeling rifle puts groups on paper that look like a shotgun pattern you guys will hear about it. I watched one video that had a lot of vertical stringing, if thats the case, it's a stock and bedding issue.

My 17 HMR T1X is averaging under 1” at 100 yards now after a few tweaks and finding the bench technique it likes. Shoots Federal TNT best. I shot it today in a stiff wind (I use streamers as wind flags) and still shot under 1”.

I’ve only tried 3 cartridge selections (A17, Federal TNT and CCI blue box), and haven’t yet tried Hornady. The gun has 250 total rounds down it, and the barrel cleans up after only 3 patches.

Having had a CZ 452 17hmr and now this Tikka, I think the Tikka has more potential with less work.

I did add a “Flaming Pig” to the barrel muzzle tonight, and with a bit more tweaking, I think it’s going to really be something.

If the winds calm down tomorrow or later this week, I’ll get back to the range and do some 100 and 200 yard groups.

On the hunt now for a stock.

I don´t like the barrel attachment.. I would like more clamping force on the barrel, instead of just 3 screws pressing the barrel tight. It is most likely a deal breaker for me!
Its the reason why I won't buy a CZ 455 or 457.

( We are "allowed" a 6 hunting rifles (maybe 8 soon) in my country..(unlimited competition rifles though) so I choose only the best machined/engineered rifles.. instead of filling up my Safe ( as I would like to :) ))

The magazine sticking out so much..unless its a bit forward heavy it gets in the way of carrying the rifle in one hand.. Thats why I prefer flush magazines.

Not stainless.

The CZs have a locking channel that the bolts mate into forcing the barrel backwards. I tiny bit of locktite with the appropriate torque value on the screws and they wont budge at all. The issues have been with people over tightening them, not with the barrel coming loose. But yeah, I wish these companies would come up with a better system.

I was checking out the T1x the other day again and the magazine is starting to be a non issue for me, don't really care for the looks of it though. It is actually very solid and so I don't feel it will be effected by hold or pushing against a rest/ bag etc when shooting. Also I held the gun like I carry in the field a lot with my hand at the balance point and the magazine did not seem to bother me at all. When it comes to the barrel mounting system if the tolerance between the barrel and the receiver is tight and your not going to be switching barrels a little locktite or bearing retainer will eliminate any issues. When build rifles with a slip fit I and many others don't use any pins or bolts and locktite alone with never an issue. I can see that one of these will be in my inventory some time.

I would say, "get a Tikka." That being said, I would not jump back on the forum and say it shoots way better than your (already legendary) CZ.

50 yards is the benchmark for rifle only. At 100 yards you must have the ammunition that the rifle wants to see. At 200 yards you can learn about wind with your practice rifle.

I shoot a Sako Quad with Lapua Midas when I can afford it. I bet on the wind and the wind always wins.

See you at the range.

I’m totally satisfied with my T1X, sub-MOA right out of the box with Wolf Match Extra sub-sonic ammo and CCI Green Tag super-sonic . I’ve attached an image of my first 3 shot grouping with Wolf. I plan on using the T1X as a precision trainer or little sister to my T3X mounted on a MPA BA chassis. I’ve already have taken possession of a MPA BA chassis for the T1X, but we’ve (Ann Arbor Arms armour) got to sort out the incaptibility with the T1X mag receiver.

Saw the T1x the other day at Sportsmans Warehouse...

They only had the .17HMR but it served the purpose of finally fondling the thing.

Felt great for balance and up to the shoulder as expected.
Then came the bolt throw, WOW. Very short throw angle is fantastic! I was surprised the cycling was not as smooth as I had built up in my imagination (and experience with my Tikka 300WM, which has always been buttered Teflon) and was a little disappointed. That said, I would expect it to smooth out with a bit of use and that's what will happen if I can't keep myself from picking it up when a .22LR is available. They were Clearing out the CZ 455 stock and there was a pretty .22WM screaming "take me home!" that I seriously had to resist at $400, but the wife helped me get through it. ;)

Almost tripped her up with a little scout they had, "try this on for size babe.", 'yes, it's nice, but I don't need another 22 at the moment.'. "Well played" I thought.

instead of having to machine a groove into the barrel or drill and tap screw holes near the muzzle to secure a front sight, is it not possible to attach iron sights as the factory has done with the T3 Arctic model? does any aftermarket manufacturer offer a rear sight that will install on a standard picatinny rail and a front sight that threads onto a 1/2-28 muzzle thread?

Oh boy, entertaining thread. I hope posters understand that when they post claims of extreme accuracy and they are not shooting at recognized competitions people are going to be skeptical.
I was amused to see someone post pictures of thier tight group when there were clearly hits that were not counted, the response was they don't count flyers.
Another thing I have noticed is some folks guess at distances and group size. And some folks insist on totally unverifiable feats of marksmanship as the theme of thier posts. Some of those folks should be shooting at Palma or the Olympics because they do what mortals cannot. To be fair, some folks are great shots and do well on occasion. That is why some of us would put up money to see this amazing shooting.
Do not be offended if folks challenge you to a match. The world deserves to see such amazing feats so we can all admire them. I for one take disregarding a challenge as admission there will never be verification.
I for one am happy to take up a challenge and shoot in competitions. Formal of fun. To me there is no shame in finding out someone else can outshoot you. Unless of course I am in a gun fight. Being a combat vet I have a whole different attitude about that.
Carry on folks.
