Is the Tacsol barrel worth it?

I have a TD 10/22 as well as a regular 10/22 (non TD). I like the looks of the Tacsol bull barrel, but is the investment worth the price as far as accuracy? Tighter groups, same, or the weight savings a huge improvement? Thoughts?

I wouldn’t. First of all its a TD. And imho that skinny breach / chamber is imho a detriment to accuracy.
I have never seen a TD shoot moa, let alone sub moa. Ive got my oem TDs tweaked to 2 moa.
Takes some time getting those adjustment screws to just the right place so that skinny breach tube is dead center in the hole.
2. I have never had an uber accurate tension barrel. Not that Ive had many, but the Ruger one on the Target Lite sucked, a Whistle Pig , was ok, and my Tacsol is ok.. But none of them compare to a high quality standard taper let alone a heavy barrel.

Accept what it is. A handy back pack 2 piece gun for plinking and hunting. Take it camping. Keep it in your truck, Take it on vacation.
But dont take it to a bench rest competition.

I replaced my Ruger barrel that had disappointing accuracy with an 8" TacSol and it made it a far more accurate SBR. I have yet to document just how good it is today and I saved no targets from my before/after testing. As far as the bolt hitting aluminum, It doesn't feel like aluminum to me. It's been a few years and my memory is notoriously bad but if I remember correctly the breech area is hardened steel. But their website is short on actual construction details (by all means withhold critical data!). I'd contact them and ask. I never would have bought one if the breech area was aluminum.

Mr. dirty8,

I have 4 Tac Sol barrels. two on 10/22's and two on Ruger Mark pistols.
A1. accuracy? I didn't get them for benchrest precision accuracy I got them for Steel Challenge. If it's precision accuracy you want get a Kidd all steel barrel.
A2. Tighter groups? I would say they are fairly to somewhat accurate. Nothing close to the Kidd barrel I have. They are lightweight barrels. You're not going to win any benchrest matches with them however, they will ring five steel plates in under 3 seconds!

good luck!

I think I'll get back to the TD a little later. I think the Tacsol barrel is pretty slick looking. I live near an FFL that had some in stock the last time I went there. I didn't pick it up and compare to my stock TD. I did replace a Browning Buckmark barrel for a Tacsol. It changed the feel on the gun in a good way. Funny thing my Buckmark is 25 plus years old beat up finish with a nice clean looking barrel. Thanks for all the input from everyone.
