Anything over 16 inches will do the job.
Y'er true problem will be cartridge defects.
Take a close look at the cartridges and check for visible defects.
When bullets are not symmetric, results will be inconsistent.
Expect typical hi v 22lr trajectories.

 

If you want "accuracy" you need to pick better ammo.

 

Stopped by the gun show yesterday and bought a few boxes of Aguila Interceptor among other things and was wondering if there might be an ideal barrel length that this ammo would perform with? I am thinking there obviously must be an increase of a slightly slower propellant to achieve that kind of velocity.

I've only heard via the web that it will supposedly stay supersonic @ 200yds thru one of the 27" CZ Super Luxe variants...

Perhaps a slightly longer barrel might be a more accurate barrel?.............

Only if using iron sights, due to a longer sight radius. Shorter, stiffer barrels have been shown to be generally more accurate, otherwise.

 

Shot some of that ammo today and was somewhat disappointed. My best group was about inch and an eighth at 50 yds. With my gun zeroed for CCI SV, its was shooting about 3." high...............

Quite possibly the best, most unbiased reply I've seen to date. Everyone wants to know what will shoot best in my brand X model Y rifle without putting in any time effort, or money. Well, you all just got your answer.

 

I shoot std vel out to 300 yards & want to go to 400 then 500 so bought a case of Interceptors but looks like I'll have to wait till next spring. Also bought wind socks 3/$10 off Ebay I'll buy 3 more as they look pretty good. when I looked it back in the summer Here's the data between std vel 22 1080fps vs velocitors at 1469fps. At 500 yards the SV drops 605" vs 365" for the Velocitors, at 300 which I now shoot it's 145" vs 89" http://gundata.org/ballistic-calculator/
The 22 is an amazing rd as at 500 yards the velocities are 521 & 707 so almost 1/2 of that at the muzzle. They tested the 45/70 at 2 miles in the late 1800 at Sandy Hook, read that some time as they are not long & poiny bullets with a high BC much like a large 22. http://www.researchpress.co.uk/index.php/firearms/long-range/sandy-hook-1879

 

Thanks so much for all the inputs. I was not looking for accuracy like I get from CCI SV or Aguila SV, just had a curious itch I had to scratch. Was kind of exciting; stuff really makes a BANG! I have 2 other bolt guns I can test with it, but the way mother nature is acting, might have to wait till the Spring. Something I did notice was that the fired cases were very clean inside and out and when I got home found that there was little or no fowling in the bore.............................

 

I'm north of you & know the crummy feeling of winter coming. I bought my case on Gunbroker for $275/shipped & never buy ammo on GB but sounded fair at the time.

 

I guess the best we can hope for is a few 60's days in December and January. There is a 50-yd. range somewhere in my area that is enclosed, I may try to locate it......................

 

Interceptor: best barrel length?

Interceptor at its best was an extraordinary performer in a 2007 lot getting 1462-1468 fps from my CZ UL SE's 28.5" barrel with the miniscule velocity variation of 6 fps better than most match ammo. It gave me 1 MOA to 300 meters and 2 MOA to 600 meters under ideal conditions. By 2011, however, I found a later lot had undercharged loads and some with no powder. In 2017 another lot gave me 1450 fps from a Savage Mark II model G's 21" barrel and an average accuracy of 1.5 MOA at 100 yards much to NOREMH's astonishment. JAIA has drawn attention to a more recent lot with excessive dings and dents showing an inexcusable lack of quality control at Aguila that we ought to bring to their attention most sternly. My experience has been that Aguila Interceptor is at its best is barrels over 21". But if something is not done about quality control at Aguila, Interceptor will be a load to avoid.
