Installed Williams WGRS 54 Peep on Winchester 9422

I just installed a Williams WGRS 54 receiver rail-fitted peep to one of my 9422s.

I bought the sight, new in the box from a fellow on GunBroker for less than half price.

I had read many posts on this and other sites about various peep systems. I have a Skinner on another 9422. I may put a 2.5 fixed Leupold on a 9422M Classic. Maybe I'll just go with the buckhorn originals on that one.

I expected to do some fitting to make the Williams work on the rifle. That was an understatement! I had to spend about an hour with tiny files and going back and forth from filing to the rifle. Finally, got it to fit. Pretty snug so I hope I haven't marred the rails too much? I wasn't sure I was going to get there without ruining the sight. But all turned out fine.

I like the looks and the sight picture. Now, when I get set up to shoot I'll find out how much, if any my front sight has to be raised (new front sight I suppose). Hope I get lucky and none.

By the way, I didn't have to remove the buckhorn rear sights on either the Skinner-fitted or Williams-fitted rifles.

My Brother has a 94/22 XTR in the magnum chambering that he installed a Bushnell 22 Custom scope. He felt the rifle was too accurate to limit himself to iron sights - I told him a scope might help but he was still 'the nut behind the butt' pulling the trigger. :)

Nice and clean appearance - good shooting ! :t

The skinner front sight replacement arrived yesterday.

when I started with the Wiliams peep and OEM front I was shooting 6" high at 25 yards. I was just trying to ballpark things, cold, unsteady rest, etc. I had the Williams peep as low as it would go. The 3 hits on the name tag are when I aimed towards the bottom of the box. All 6" high.

So, I ordered the Skinner Front Sight. I ordered .500 even though many said .450 was what I should get. I figured I had enough adjustment with the Williams I'd be ok.

I removed the OEM front sight (very short) and the hood. Very easy with piece of wood and light tapping with small hammer.

Then I shot again. the first shot was low (which means my change is working). I adjusted the Peep (moved it up) and the next four shots were much better. I realize this is rough shooting, poor rest, pajamas getting ready for church, and hurried.

I'm very pleased!

I know this is an old post but I'm thinking of getting a peep sight for my winchester 9422 and (since it fits) my remington 552 also. Any suggestions or pointers to give about your experience is appreciated. Did you have to change out the front sight on your 9422? Is it holding up and are you still happy with it? Thanks.
