I'm having major anxiety right about now. I sold one of my favorite 10/22's today. Well He's coming pick it up when I get home. I've never sold any 10/22 I've owned. I was up to 12 or 13, but I was made an offer I couldn't turn down. Good news is it gives me enough funds to build another one just like it except I probably won’t spend as much on the barrel this time. This is the one I’m saying goodbye to. And no worries, I sold it to a local sheriff deputy.

It was probably one of my more expensive builds. :(

I'd focus instead on the good deed you're doing for a fellow enthusiast.

And, it is indeed a good deed.

That's a well-thought-out assembly, probably well ahead of what he'd have otherwise.
He has a 30+ year old 10/22 and he wanted a higher end version. He got exactly what he was looking for. He’s bringing me his old one and I’m gonna give it a makeover and spiff it up for him. I told him he has a lifetime warranty lol. I don’t mind fixing it if anything goes wrong with it.

Ever notice when you perfect a project, and there’s nothing else to do to it, it has a way of becoming a safe queen and you move on to other projects.

My friend only buys broken and abused firearms for cheap, he shops for parts, refinishes them, redoes the wood. Makes it serviceable and presentable. Then buys another. He would be bored to death with a new gun. 😂😂😂

Yes, and no.🤯
Im always open to a new modification. Today, I saw a nice VQ barrel for a TD, and all of a sudden Im thinking I could swap out the barrel on my Mag pul TD , and then thought just put the whole stainless td into the French Walnut TD and use its black receiver with the new VQ barrel. . I stopped myself. But the seed is planted.

Lucky for me, the one I have been modifying for the last couple years works well for me and I really enjoy it, if I could just get it where the magazine would hold 5 rounds it would be much easier to shot groups, shooting a 5 or 10 shot group with a 3 shot magazine is labor intensive 😂 and requires fairly calm conditions to maintain a solid point of impact over the course of loading. But the overall setup makes it appealing to me so I will make it work.

I can single load but that’s kinda slow too. My friends shoot 10/22’s and can run the gun fairly fast and accurately when a preferred condition presents itself.

I still prefer mine to theirs. Just me. I think it’s a keeper.

Why can you only load 3?

Basically I wanted a .22 trainer that duplicated my LH Remington 700 Police 20” carbine in .308, that was easy I had an extra H-S Precision stock for the 700. They looked alike, handled about the same but the Bergara was a single shot.

One winter day I decided to revamp the Bergara 10 round magazine to fit inside the Remington 700 BDL style bottom metal. After some sawing, sanding and some drill work I came up with a working magazine. Unfortunately it only worked out to hold 3 rounds.

My first F-Class shoot, I changed it up slightly to be under 10.5 pounds with harris bipod some I could shoot it in the light rifle class. Figured I was less apt to embarrass myself than shooting in the Target Rifle Class with high end stuff up to 18 pounds and wide F-Class bipods.

The setup performed well and I shot a really good score. It is my go to .22 for most outings except high volume plinking and other types of stuff where a 10 round magazine or multiple magazines excell.

I have a second rifle in the factory stock and bottom metal to cover those situations.

The modified rifle has the same handling qualities of the .308 and almost the same capacity. Probably just me but I actually prefer the sporter stock to the Bergara HMR that came on the rifle. It’s just more natural to me and is basically what I have used all my life.

my custom TD is getting that way...seems like every time I take it out, it gets close to being damaged

everybody needs a custom walnut stocked TD...even if you're hesitant to take it out whenever the kids want to go shoot it

and if this was ever damaged it would break my heart as a bit of effort went into it

Now if I were to do one of those full length stocks a takedown would be perfect. My dad like those stocks, I wanted to get or build him a 10/22 with one but it wasn’t to be. Maybe I should buy one in his memory.

Crackedcornish

That is some good looking wood.post another full length put together also pls.

Just be glad there is a market for your rifle.

I have an old 80s 10/22 I trimmed the stock down on, installed some firesights, etc. for my kid. Kid not actually showing that much interest in shooting so it's just a plinker I never shoot. If I had my druthers I'd sell it off and replace with one of the Walther/Umarex/HK .22lr MP5s. But ain't nobody gonna wanna buy an essentially stock 10/22 with a shortened stock for any appreciable amount of $$.

Anyone interested to see the new built that will take its place? I just graciously received an offer on a scope I've been wanting for a long time but lacked the funds to make it happen. I'm really excited. Its going to be quite similar, but different.... and likely better. I know the scope will definitely be better. Not sure on the barrel, but might be just as good. I can't bring myself to spend $325 on a barrel again, so I'm going to do all the little tricks I can to make this barrel as accurate as I can get it. I'm considering cerakoting the receiver and using cerakote micro slick on the bolt, charging handle and receiver.

Building 1022's is always fun.

I purchased my first 1, a walnut stocked carbine in 1977.
Currently own 27 1022/Clones. Including an orginal fingergroove and a 4 digit walnut carbine . 17 of the remaining are custom builds, the 8 other pretty much orginal.

My records indicate I have once owned or own, over 120 1022's . So it can get away on you, going to attempt to reduce in the spring . lol.

Would love pics and details of your new build

I know how you feel. I've sold 7 this year because my boys have no desire to take or inherit them. I've traded but never sold one until now. 75 and slowing down.

I only own one semi-auto 22lr rifle and it was recently purchased after decades of only bolts and a few levers.
Figured a semi would be a nice/different change of pace and my "10/22" does all that but I have no desire to get another. It's a great plinker and for dumping rounds at fast moving targets but I still prefer slowing things down and making "every shot count"......have you seen the cost of ammo (in Canada at least) lol.....

I like all types of .22's and I think for normal hunting applications and even most precision uses inside of 100 yards a 10/22 can be built to meet even the majority of harder to please guys expectations for accuracy.

But if we were in a SHTF situation and I had to leave and could only take 1 .22 rifle to depend on from then on out it would be a bolt action no doubt.
I also love lever guns as well but again in a TEOTWAWKI situation the choice has to be the bolt action for its simplicity and even ease of cleaning as compared to the other actions.
