Which ammo has the highest? When will the NTX 25g be out and what do you expect it be velocity wise? Thanks just looking for a fox round and maybe a yote? I know the 40grn are favored. Thanks!

I think CCI has the fastest. If you go to their site they have very nicely payed out tables of what ammunition is good for what, and the specs for the ammo.

It would be nice if Hornady gave the 22 mag some love, 25 grain would be neat. Or 40-50 grain ammo with higher velocities would be good too.

Are you looking just to eliminate the foxes, or harvesting for their pelts?

Winchester has the fastest "advertised" mv for two of their loadings:

Winchester Supreme 30gr JHP 2250fps (black box, nasty hollow point)
Winchester Supreme 30gr VMAX HE 2250fps (black box, silver tips) - haven't seen any yet as it has just been announced a couple months ago)

But to really be sure, you gotta check the chronographs of the different loads in your gun that you intend to use. These figures all change with different barrel lengths; there is a fellow on here who chronographed the cci VMAX and the maximag +V (30gr) at 2350fps+, so you really gotta check to be sure.

Essentially, any of the 30gr loads from federal, cci, hornady, and winchester (excluding lead free varieties) will give you 2200fps+

I am not expecting the NTX to be very fast even though it is lighter. The overall dimensions will be similar to that of the leaded, 30gr counterparts, which gives rise to similar chamber pressures, and potentially a lower powder charge. Be happy to see 2200 out of those too.

Regarding coyotes, the 30gr VMAX rocks. If i were to choose any of the lighter varieties, I would go with the 34gr winchester supreme (different from the 30gr variety)

the 34gr loads are advertised at 2120fps, and have one of the most radical bullet designs I have ever seen in a rimfire. Great velocity, flat, hits hard, designed to open up with some gnarly sharp petals, great coon-fox-yote rounds. There is a fellow on here who rounds up coons like it's nobody's business with the 34gr load. I shot a rabbit in the *** with one and it made it all the way into the head, bulging the eyes. Great penetration. You'd love it.

What brand of gun are you shooting?

The Winchester 34 grn supreme's are pretty much the baned black talon design in a rimfire.Absolutely devistating rnds on game up to and including coyotes within 100yds. I think they are a great varmint and SD rnd. For keeper game, or edible stuff the Original Win . 40 grn hp is hard to beat.

is that a 21" barrel? give the V-max a try, they are hot as hell out of the 21" barrels.

FLNT4EVR said it well. The 34gr is devastating, and totally looks like the black talon bullet.

You gotta try and see what is accurate in your rifle too. Again, try the 30gr vmax (any brand) 34gr winchester supreme, 30gr TNT (cci or federal) and the 30gr maximag+V (which i think is actually the fastest round when you get down to chronographing it) All of those loads are advertised at 2200fps, except for the 34grs which are 2120. God luck.

Very interesting. Usually when you see the velocity listed by manufacturers it is much higher and is basically the "maximum you will ever ever get" speeds. It is almost universal here that the velocities were exceeded.

Those CCI Maxi-mag+V are listed a "2200 FPS" yet he got 2386 FPS, 8% faster then what it is rated at.

No complaints at all, just interesting, and makes me much more interested in CCI ammo.

Here's some recent information (March 2011)

Look at the CCI TNT and +V Loads cooking over 2300 fps...

Every gun is gonna respond differently, but I have found that the +Vs are consistently up there, along with Winchester Supreme 30gr, 30gr Vmax, and TNT loadings. they will all easily clock in over 2200 fps in most guns from what I have read and experienced on my own.

Here is the whole write up for ya!

22 Mag Velocity

I just got a Henry ( h001tm ) in 22 Mag and tried some of the 2200fps CCI and Federal 30 gr ammo and my Henry was key holeing the bullets at 25 yds :mad:I then shot the CCI maxi-Mag 40 jhp at 1850fps and was shooting 1 hole at 25 yds :bthumb: I will guess my Henry does not like this hot new ammo at all. Does anyone know what the twist rate is on a Henry and the Ruger 77/22. TIA

Which 30gr CCI did you try? was it a hollowpoint? if so, try the VMAX, it's a longer bullet (about the same length as a 40gr) and thus should stabilize similarly. Weight is not a factor in bullet stabilization, but rather length (which can be analogous within the same caliber and constructed of similar materials, but not equal).
