High Standard Sentinel MK IV .22 Mag

I found this 4" barreled 9-shot 1974 High Standard Sentinel MK IV in .22 Mag today. It's in nice shape.

I can't even remember the last time I've seen a MK IV, much less the more desirable 4" model. These were made from 1974 to around '79 in 2-3-4 inch barrel lengths.

The DA pull won't win any prizes being both long and stiff but the SA pull is just shy of 4 pounds....Walnut stocks.

My 4-inch Sentinel (1977?) has an average SA trigger pull weight just shy of 5 pounds, and one recently sold on GunBroker has a SA pull weight just shy of 7 pounds, according to the seller.

Mine is at a gunsmith to reduce the SA pull weight to about 3 pounds, which, to me, is the maximum in order to wring out the inherent accuracy off sand bags and still be safe. I'll spend the money because my particular Sentinel, as is, already is capable of about an inch and a quarter groups at 25 yards off bags with ammo it likes. That's target grade.

I just wish there were after-market grips to replace the short, semi-slick factory Walnut grips. I recently sent an inquiry to John Stimson to see if he ever has heard about after-market grips.

These guns also came with a larger grip with checkered sides. See this auction for an example: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/792739577
Wow! Thanks, HS. That's news to me. I've talked to dealers and searched everywhere on line and never found any grip other than the standard, semi-slick shorty. The 4-inch Sentinel MK IV is too nose heavy for the standard grip, especially in summer when people perspire.

Gun Broker doesn't let you contact a seller after a listing has ended, so I couldn't ask him about those checkered grips, and John Stimson hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Edit: Just realized that the Sentinel in the GB picture is not a MK IV, but if the grip frame is the same as a MK IV then there is still hope. :- )

grips

The revolver on GunBroker is a Sentinel 2" combo, with both .22LR and .22 Mag cylinders. This is a continuation of the Mark I and Mark IV lines. The Mark I was .22LR and the Mark IV is was in .22 Mag. The Sentinel combo came in 2 inch barrel or 4 inch barrel versions. These are all steel frame guns. The grips should interchange between the Mark I, Mark IV, and Sentinel combos. The trick is to find the desired grip.

Thanks, again, HS. I didn't know the later Sentinel was a continuation of the Mk I and IV lines. That's good news for the possibility that the grips might interchange.
