Henry feed tube removal?

My grandson has lodged a 22 in the black tube. Not the removable brass tube. Hoo1 levergun.
Bullet is either in backwards or he put a 22 mag in by mistake. It is all the way down at the bottom.

Does anybody know how to remove the black tube Thanks, Tom

.

First, ensure the chamber's empty.

Second, remove the forend barrel band after inscrewing it's cross screw.

Third, with the barrel held in a padded vise very near the forward magazine tube hanger, tap the entire hanger & tube out one side of it's bbl dovetail just enough for the hanger to clear the dovetail cut. (I found this easier than trying to drift out the small pin holding the tube in the hanger)
Tap carefully, as the hanger is a cast part & may snap if vibrations are set up by repeated hard hammering.
(The forend, etc, will twist a bit to the side as you do so - not to worry)

Once the hanger's free, slide the hanger, mag tube & forend off towards the muzzle & clear the magazine tube.

Reassemble in reverve order. ;) . :p

Huey - when you get this problem fixed - could you let us know what the jamming cause was? (how/why a round got wedged in the outer tube) I don't know how old your grandson is . . and hey . . . things like this can happen. It's probably one of those things that you couldn't do if you were trying to.:)

Good luck with your fix and I'm sure you'll get it fixed O.K. and the rifle will soon be back in action again. :):bthumb:

On my Henry rimfires the outer mag tube is pinned into the receiver; after removal of the Receiver Cover, one pin needs to be pushed out to free the mag tube.

The pin is very easy to drive out and the mag tube should come free of the receiver with just a bit of twisting and perhaps a few light taps with a small rubber/plastic mallet.

Huey Chief,

If you load a Henry levergun, then decide to unload it, you could wind up with a round stuck in the receiver/ elevator area. I have done this a couple of times, by trying to dump the live rounds from the inner magazine tube. I have been fortunate, though, because putting back the inner magazine tube allowed my to lever out the single, stuck round.

Here is a photo of the bare Henry receiver, showing which parts are which:

...and an old Henry parts list, that I doctored up:

Thanks guys, appreciate the input.

Additionally, kcw on Culvers forum, had input about the pin needing removed.

Thanks for all the good input about the pins.

I also called Henry's and immediately was transferred to their gunsmith. He confirmed that the cover (around the receiver) must be removed. Then there are 3 pins, only remove the LOWER PIN. He was a nice guy.

The hard part was getting the "pressed fit" tube out. The sight was already off, so there was nothing left to hit with a plastic hammer. I found a nylon bolt which would sit just in the feed opening of the outer tube. One very hard hit and the tube came out.

I then saw a 22 mag round stuck in the receiver opening (this is a 22 rifle).

I pulled on the stuck bullet with pliers and only the lead came out. I then ppulled the case out with needle nose pliers.

It's now all back together and feeds fine.

thanks
