Received the new 15-round GSG magazines.
As you can see, the mag body is the same (GSG 15-round on the left, GSG 10-round on the right)
Next photo is magazine followers and magazine bases. The new GSG 15-round on the left, Taylor Tactical in the middle, and GSG 10-round on the right. As you can see, the GSG 15-round and the Taylor Tactical are nearly identical for the follower and base; except the GSG base is plastic and the Taylor Tactical is aluminum. Also, the GSG base is just a tiny bit (maybe 1/16 inch) taller than the Taylor Tactical and the slide stop catch on the follower is slightly different.
Next photo is magazine followers and magazine bases showing the inside of the bases. Order remains the same. Again, the GSG 15-round and Taylor Tactical are basically identical. Both use a set screw to secure to the mag body. The GSG 15-round takes a slightly larger Allen wrench than the Taylor Tactical.
Next photo is springs. The new GSG 15-round on the left, Taylor Tactical’s extra power spring in the middle, and GSG 10-round on the right. I think the GSG 15-round isn't as stiff as the TT extra power, although it's longer.
Next photo is the gun sitting flush on a table with the GSG 15-round magazine installed. Thus, it doesn’t hang below the magazine funnel.
I haven’t been to the range yet, but messed with combinations of stuff at home. The results:
- I managed to get 16 rounds in the GSG 15-round magazine, but the top round may be too tight to function properly, so 15 rounds might be the right functioning number.
- I swapped out the GSG 15-round base with one of Chet’s bases and managed to get 13-rounds in the magazine. I then also swapped the GSG 15-round spring with the GSG 10-round spring and was able to get 14-rounds in the magazine. Neither the 13 or 14-rounds seems too tight, so they might be functional.
Because the GSG 15-round magazine basically adds the equivalent of the Taylor Tactical upgrades, it has the same minor limitations (see
).
That said, messing with the Taylor Tactical magazine loader a bit, if I pay attention to the angle I press down, I can load the first two rounds, even thought the follower cockeyes a bit.
Now trying to decide which combination of springs and bases I want to test at the range. It can be a huge pain to remove Chet's bases so I hate to put one on unless I plan for it to stay. Will check back once I have a chance to test it.
