Good 3/4" Rimfire Scopes?

Looking at a used Browning BL-22 with a Browning 4x 3/4" scope on it. No idea how the scope will work out, but I prefer the look of a 3/4" scope on a BL-22.

What are some good 3/4" scopes for rimfires? Any recommendations for 3/4" scope rings?

Thanks.

If I wanted a 3/4 inch scope I would either post a WTB ad on the forum here or check ebay and the gun auction sites. I used the old Weaver's for years when growing up on Marlin 39A's & Reminton 66's and thought I had one of the better setup's at the time. There are numerous used .22 Weaver's on eBay currently & some in like new shape. I would think that for the $35.00 to $40.00 range you will find one with rings and ready to bolt on. Actually I have been thinking about trying to find an old Weaver 3 x 6 3/4 for myself as this was my scope of choice on my old Marlin about 35 years ago. Best of luck!

Most manufacture's current lines of scopes do not include 3/4 inch scopes. The last time I looked, there are none sold by Weaver, Leupould, or Burris. Why? The reason is the 3/4 inch scope, will have a FOV 25% less, and elevation and windage range control movement of 25% less, than a 1 inch tube. The FOV must be smaller to account for smaller moving/pivoting "erector" tube that must be placed inside of 3/4 inch tube, otherwise users will see the edges of the erector tube as they adjust elevation and windage controls.

If your looking for small and sleek, please don't waste your time on the 3/4 inch tube models, unless you prize looks above functionality, or are trying to match a period scope to a period rifle.

I might suggest a 4X 20mm ShortMag or 4X 20mm Timberline for a small and sleek looking quality scope (about $150). There are other vendors that sell similar, low power, small object size, 1 inch scopes that should also work if $150 is outside your budget.

Who still sells 3/4 inch tube scopes? I seems I have seen then in Bushnell's low end line, but I don't see them there on their web site.

Crosman, Daisy, Tasco, and Simmons 4x scopes are 3/4 inch, includes rings, and are being sold in the discount stores such as Walmart and Meijers. These are considered "junk" scopes, with tiny FOVs. I am assuming they are all 3/4 inch, as I can only find tube spec for Tasco on the web.

Tasco makes a 3-7X 20mm zoom for 3/4 inch. Notice very small FOV of 11 feet @7x, versus FOV of 16.5 feet for Leupold VXI 2-7X @ 7x. This is not because Leupold is more expensive, but due to much smaller tube. In this case it is 33% less. They don't list control range, but I would suspect a much lower range when conpared to a 1 inch tube.

You can always try to locate older 3/4 inch scopes such as the Weaver (or Bushnell, etc.) on ebay. Due to the age of these older Weaver, almost any current CHINESE made scope will surpass the optics of these 30+ year old Weavers, but I suspect few of these CHINESE scopes can equal the mechanical durability of these old Weaver scopes.

I doubt that optics statement very much. We use machines that are 30+ years old at work to make very precise (expensive) optics for a lot of big big companies. Yes we do have very high-end technology there for the very picky optics, but those are ones that will be having lasers shot through them, not sporting optics.

the BIG difference is todays coating. Coating technology has come a long way in making optics better and more efficient. Aspherical lenses also are a huge improvement, but to my knowledge not too many rifle scopes have them.

if you want a 3/4" scope, find a good shape older weaver, redfield, etc.

Halfneck,

Personally I'm with you on the 3/4" scope for your little browning. I have quite a few 22 rifles with old Weaver scopes from 2.5x to 6x, and yes there is some limitation to what FOV wise over a 1" tube scope, but I'm willing to live with it cause they just look better. Ebay always has Weaver 3/4" scopes and some of the time you can find a "baby" Redfield for sale....check these out

One of the best little scopes in 3/4" is the old Redfield. It is 4 x and it was made just for rimfires back in 70's. I forget the model. I had one on a trim Steyr Zephr .22 manlicher and another on a Browning auto .22. Great scope for small rifles. They were very well made, and when you can find one they are not really cheap.

That Browning scope was made by Redfield. I have 2 of the Redfield 3/4X4'S. Had a Browning no difference by looking at them. I like the looks of smaller scopes on small rifles. Might have to put one on my full stocked Rug 10-22.

Those Redfield 3/4" tubes I believe were called 22 scope - beautiful little scopes they are. I have one one a Anshutz made Woodchucker, and Brno #1:

Redfield makes (made) the mounts for these as well, 3/8" rails if I recall.

Another scope you might find is a Bushnell Custom 22 scope. Full length rail at bottom allowed a lot of adjustability.

And as mentioned above, the Weaver V22 (3-6x) 7/8" tubes as well were pretty good. Have one of these on a Romanian M69 .22
