I was on gun mag warehouse website yesterday and noticed a new Glock 44 magazine. The magazine is manufactured by ProMag and holds 18 rounds of 22 LR. ProMag has a poor reputation but was curious if anyone has seen these mags in person.

Gun Mag Warehouse price is $14.99 which is cheap enough to try. Taurus can get their TX22 mags to work so can ProMag build a reliable mag for the Glock 44. I bought a ProMag magazine for my S&W model 39 that works. The model 39 is a range mag as would be the mags for the Glock 44.

I just bought three new ten round Glock 44 mags so I now have five mags. I haven't decided if I'll try the ProMag Glock 44 mag. I just wanted the forum members to know at least someone might be trying to fill the void of a high capacity mag for the Glock 44.

I just found a youtube video on the ProMag Glock 44 eighteen round magazine posted two days ago.

#1 - ProMag is crap.

#2 - Everything that matters on the G44 slide is steel. I can't see that an all aluminum slide would have any advantage over that.

Love the ad though. "Are you tired of your G44 plastic slide breaking?" No, but I have been trying. Dang thing just keeps going and going and going and going like the Energizer Bunny. Also, how many "real operators" are running G44's?

I have been shooting my Glock 44 regularly and it continues to please. I have no problem with the hybrid metal polymer slide. The only reason I can see for having an aluminum slide is to mount a red dot sight.

I wouldn’t want to try to mount a Red Dot Sight on a factory Glock polymer/metal slide.

There are a lot of people who want their rimfire training pistol set up exactly like their centerfire pistol. I think the NPM will garner sales if they can keep the price reasonable.

I went ahead and ordered a magazine to try. We will see if this ProMag actually works or not.

As far as mounting a RDS, I considered a dovetail groove adaptor but don't trust the extra weight added with the polymer slide. We will see if Nelson actually ever releases their aluminum slide or not. From what I read and watching their video, you will have to use high velocity ammo only if you run a RDS.

I really would like to use a RDS on my G44 if possible. I have the Swampfox Kingslayer site on my Kel-Tec PMR30 and CP33 and love them.

In the Nelson video they were not using a suppressor. I’m curious if the Glock 44 with NPM slide would function reliably with High Velocity or subsonic ammo and a suppressor. The suppressors generally add back pressure which usually translates to more reliable blowback semi autos. With short barrels of 4.5” or less High Velocity ammo tends to be subsonic in 22 LR.

The Nelson video did illustrate how a difference in ammo could affect reliability. The aluminum Nelson slide looked similar to the performance of Advantage Arms aluminum slide conversion kits with various ammo.

I’m curious if you’ll use the internal slide parts of the Glock 44 with a NPM slide or the NPM slide will be complete with barrel and all internal components.

As am I. When I messaged them on Facebook, they said that the slide will probably run between $185 and $220. I'm guessing that is for the standard slide and also for the one with all the cuts/windows. I forgot to even ask if it will come as a stripped slide or complete. They have yet to say when it will actually be available.

I just sent them a message on Facebook asking if the slide will come stripped or complete. I'll update once I hear from them.

I received 2 magazines yesterday. I got out this morning to try them. 1st they are very hard to load. 14-15 rounds aren't bad but, the last 3 or 4 are hard. I started with CCI standard which run fine in my 10 round magazines, I had failure to eject, failure to feed and stove pipes. Tried Federal Auto Match about the same thing. It ran the last 10 better. Federal bulk HV HP's still had problem with the first few rounds out of the mag. Loaded with 15 rounds they run much better, not perfect. I did not try them loaded with 15 rounds of CCI standard. That's what I got, someone else may have different results.

Thanks for posting your results. If I buy these ProMags I doubt I would load more than fifteen rounds. If you can only get reliable functioning with Mini Mag ammo with the ProMags it kind of hurts using the cheap bulk rimfire ammo.

Hopefully the ProMag magazines wear in and reliability improves with use. The more upward pressure from the top cartridge of the mag adds drag on the under side of the slide which can induce failures. Normally where the closing slide hits the top cartridge on the feed ramp is indicative of insufficient recoil impulse. This type of failure is a common occurrence with my Advantage Arms Glock kits with weaker or inconsistent ammo. The more cartridges in the mag compresses the cartridge stack and spring pressure which is aggravated with higher capacity mags.

Typically with weaker ammo I can down load my AA mags to six or seven rounds (out of a 10 round mag) I can get more reliable function.

If the ProMags won’t reliably feed CCI Mini Mags or CCI Blazer when new these new mags probably won’t ever perform very well with cheap bulk when loaded to full capacity.

I figure ProMag used a coil spring to get the capacity they wanted. The quality of the spring might dictate the service life of the spring. McMaster Carr sell coils springs by wire gauge and number of coils per length. A replacement coil spring might be easier to source than a factory flat coil magazine spring.

My factory Glock 44 magazines have gotten easier to load and are still reliable. For the price the ProMag 44 mag might be worth trying.

Mine arrived today. I hand cycled CCI Standard, CCI Mini Mag, CCI AR Tactical, and Federal Champion ammo, all 40 grain bullets. Both loaded with 18 rounds (that is all that will fit)

Mag A - number of misfeeds
CCI Standard - first 3
CCI Mini Mags - 0
CCI AR Tact. - first 1
Fed Champ. - 0

Mag B - number of misfeeds
CCI Standard - first 3
CCI Mini Mags - 0
CCI AR Tact. - 0
Fed Champ. - 0

It will be a few days before I can get to the range. The ProMags are .015" thinner front to back compared to the OEM mags. I left both magazines loaded with 18 rounds of Federal Champion until I can get to the range. I don't know if leaving them loaded for a few days will actually help or not. Doing that did help with my Kel-Tec CP33 and PMR magazines

Final note, a mag loader will help with loading the ProMag magazines. I also wish that they would have used a more traditional oval shaped mag spring. It felt like the springs and followers were slightly binding up when trying to load the last 3 rounds.

I finally got to the range this morning. The ProMag magazines worked flawlessly in my G44 with Federal Champion 510 40Gr ammo I did not have a single malfunction. I loaded the two magazines three times for a total of 108 trouble free rounds. It definitely makes it better as a trainer for my G19 since mag capacity matches now.

I'm not going to lie and say that I was not expecting problems since after all they are ProMag magazines. I was pleasantly surprised.
