Don’t know much about .17 conversions but you can use any rings you want. I’ve never had Ruger rings on 10/22mg or 10/22 or the original 44 Carbines. I use Weaver base and usually steel rings from other manf.

I just coughed up $75 for the 30 mm medium Ruger Rings. and I have quite a stash of 17 hmr
if this gun runs as good as I hope. Then Ill have a WMR HMR HM2 and the 22 Kidd. Ill buy 2 kidd 2 stages for the WMR and HM2, and gift/ sell the 10 other 1022s . And trim down the the other inventory too, And keep a bolt gun in each caliber, and call it a day. So keep your eyes open , Im on the verge of liquidation.

While you have the bolt out removing the inner extractor I would do a general clean up of burrs and rough spots. I would also install a recoil buffer and a sharp pointed outside extractor made by multiple people. If you have the ability I would also smooth up the guide rod on the bolt. It all sounds like a lot but it is kind of fun to know how things work and make small improvements.
