I think that is a K and is the code letter for the year 1963. Also the grooved receiver top matches up with that time frame. The early rifle didn't have grooved receivers.
Pretty good deal considering the sights came with it. That lyman peep sight is bit expensive when you can find one. Enjoy it.
I picked one up at a gun show in the late eighties for $65 with only a front blade style sight and no magazine. You did very well on this.

The sights are what you paid for you basically got the rifle for free put the polish on your prize and enjoy 😃!
