I hope this is the correct place to post my enquiry. If not, please let me know.

Can you help me date my rifle?

On another board it has been suggested that my rifle is "What you have is not actually a "Browning", but rather an FN Trombone slide action .22 rifle that was designed by John M. Browning in 1919. It was patented on August 1, 1922 and was produced by Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal Belgium from 1922 to 1974. "

The markings show the FL22.C and the serial number is 4060.

Low number of 4000.

Obviously a 1922 or 1923 gun,most likely 1923.The oldest one that I've seen.If you've followed this thread,you know that being more precise isn't possible.
A pity that such an old one had scope blocks added(or a groove? I can't see enough of the top)
Since it is an early one with a square tang, does it have a stock crack in that area?

Your rifle s/n 4060 is more than likely 1923 (s/n 23xx was manufactured in April 1923 according to FN).

From what I have worked out s/n 48xx is earliest 1924 (and certainly not 1923)and s/n 44xx is pre 1924.

The earliest FL 22 C marked Trombone I have is 13xx and the latest 49xx.

Possibly 13xx was made in 1922.
