Yep- as in Feinwerkbau!

Yep- as in Feinwerkbau championship air guns!

Was surprised to see as well... they also make a History No. 2- a recreation based on the Rogers & Spencer!

Surprisingly enough, it was imported through Air Rifle Headquarters- about the only place in the US you can get one. I tried several other European sources, none willing to ship to the US... for either the FWB or a couple of other hi-quality underhammers. Other than the Pedersoli Carleton, which you can get via Dixie Gun Works or others.
No, it's not a set trigger- but it is very, very good- I believe around 10 oz. trigger pull as it comes from the factory- but user adjustable

MarTay6 - Thank you for posting the link to Air Rifle Headquarters on another thread. I have been wanting an under hammer for some time but wasn't really sold on the Pedersoli.

I have bought several BP pistols recently and have been bit by the BP bug real bad.

Did not want to spend the money, but this seems like a rare opportunity to get a world-class pistol.

Is there anywhere you know of to get factory accessories? What size ball/patch have you been using? The sizes they recommend in the manual are not available here in the states.

Hi-
I don't have my load data here.... I have written down at work what it's supposed to shoot. Just about anything is available if you look hard enough- and you can make something close work simply by adjusting your patch thickness. If you have a slightly thicker ball, use a slightly thinner patch material- and visa versa. You can get accessories from Air Rifle Headquarters as well, best to call them and talk to them yourself for what you need- however, understand that anything you need you can get from any number of sources; other than actual parts, no accessory you need is unique to this gun.
I have not shot it yet- and probably won't in the immediate future. Right now, I am in the process of cleaning out 40 years of accumulation out of my house- getting ready to retire. I bought this for enjoyment/use in retirement... we're moving from Florida to Maine- yes, I know that's supposedly backwards! :D I bought it at the time because the opportunity presented itself, and I knew how hard it is to get these. I, like you- badly wanted a good underhammer, and they're nearly impossible to find in this country. There are one or more other European makers of underhammers, but they are ridiculously expensive and expensive to ship- if they even will.
Also this week just lucked into another superb single shot muzzleloading target pistol- a Yazell... handmade by Harold Yazell for muzzleloading competition. He is in his '90's now, if he is indeed still with us, but not making these anymore. I was crazy lucky to find this mint pistol from its original owner!! Found it for sale, surprisingly enough- in the S&W forum classifieds!

Hi Wes - thanks for the reply. I live in FL in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I'm sure you will love Maine. It is beautiful up there.

Before I bought the pistol I emailed airrifleheadquarters with some questions, some of which related to accessories and he stated that he did not carry any for this gun. I probably have most of what I need to shoot it but my main concern is if you need their special nipple wrench to attatch/remove the nipple because of its unique placement.

I did find a source for accessories in Germany and purchasing and shipping small items does not seem to be too costly. http://www.schiesssport-buinger.de/shooting/Accessories_5

Can't find the .362 balls or the .012 patches they recommend, but I might try a .358 ball with a .015 patch - that is about the closest I can find.

Glad I saw your post today and ordered the gun. Seems like I may have gotten the last one he had, because when I checked his site later in the day it said there was no inventory on the gun.

I can't believe that you have had the gun since March and have not shot it. Well good luck with the move and thank you again for sharing.

Hi, Cary-
Nice to meet ya'! Yes, I've had the gun... however to shoot it- takes percussion caps- which are difficult to fine up here in either #10 or #11 (now have both), and as I said, I am in the middle of cleaning out a house that is crazy full!! The nearest range where I could shoot it is about 60 miles away, and I just don't have the time to mess with it right now. Still don't have any powder- will wait until I get up to Maine so I don't have to transport any more ammo-related stuff than I'm already having to move. Hoping to be there in a couple of months.
I used to shoot B/P in the early '70's, with 2 rifles... just now getting back into it, and am so happy to be doing so!! BTW, my pistol came with a nipple wrench... if not, it shouldn't be too difficult to find one to fit. Also came with a nipple cover. The only problem I had- and if you get one- MAKE SURE you find out how to open the combination lock on the case before you FIDDLE WITH IT!!! Let me say that again: MAKE SURE you know how to open it, because if you mess with it incorrectly- you'll never get the lock open! I had to grind the lock off, because even with his instructions- the lock simply would not open. So now I have a very nice case for it- with holes where the lock rivets used to be.
Thanks for the link... Here's a place I was finally able to obtain some #10 caps from... this couple specialize in muzzleloading supplies, so they tend to maintain everything needed, and offer trememdous service. Fast and personalized service, these are now my go-to for things I may need. e*Bay is also a good source.

Well the gun arrived Wednesday and I must say it is a fine piece of engineering. Beautifully constructed, excellent fit and finish ,and a terrific trigger. Also came in a really neat Negrini case. Opening the case was not a problem.

Only one thing...the factory forgot to put the rear sight, and rear sight adjustment screw on the gun. I contacted the dealer who said he was going to contact Feinwerkbau.

I'm sure it will be a cinch to install once I get the parts, but its kind of like getting a brand new car without a steering wheel. The balls and the patches arrived yesterday. I guess I'll just need some patience on this one.

The sight and sight adjustment screw arrived today from FWB. I am going to the range tomorrow to see how she shoots. I have caps and Swiss Powder.

They recommend Swiss No. 1 (4f). I have Swiss No. 2 (3f) so I'm going to bump the load to 12 grains from the 10.5 they suggest. Also I have .358 balls and .015 Wonderlube patches. I could not find the .362 balls and .012 patches stated in the manual. Let's see how she shoots.

Anxious!!

Anxious to hear how you do! Please post your initial impressions. I am knee-deep in packing out my house/cleaning/heaving anything and everything, so no time to try mine out... not until I'm relocated. I have everything I need to shoot- except the powder, which I'll get when I get up to Maine.

Hello Wes - Hope your packing is going well. I took the gun out twice last week.

First time out - It shot great. At 15 yards 4 out of the first 5 shots were in the X ring, and the one that was not was definitely my fault. Using 12 grains of Swiss - shooting the gun is like shooting a .22. No recoil and highly accurate. I have the sight lowered as far as it will go in the gun and it is a perfect 6 o'clock hold at 15 yards on a B-8 NRA target. At 25 yards I need to aim just a tad lower. The trigger is probably the best trigger I have on any gun I own.

The cone on the nipple is perfectly straight (not tapered) so you need to squeeze a #11 cap a little so it will stay on upside down. I don't know if this is the way the gun was originally designed by Billinghurst or is just the nipple that FWB uses, but it is not the best design. I ordered some #10 Remington caps online - maybe they will be a little better, but it is really not a big issue.

Second time out - shot 3 B-8 NRA targets, 10 shots each @15, 25 and 50 yards.

15 yrd. 98-6x
25 yrd. 100-5x
50 yrd. 82-2x

I was very happy with the way the gun shot. It is definitely a keeper. It is probably the most accurate handgun (BP, rimfire or centerfire) I own.

Cleanup was easy too. Less than 1 hour. I could not knock the pin out that holds the barrel onto the handgrip, so I cleaned the barrel and nipple area with the barrel in place. I broke 2 oak dowels banging on that pin with a small gunsmith hammer, but could not get it to budge, and I did not want to use a brass center punch on it. So I have yet to remove the barrel as they suggest in the manual.

Q-tips were very useful for cleaning the breech area inside the barrel once the nipple was removed.

If you saw the gun in person...

If you saw the gun in person, it'd sell itself! It is truly a beautifully made gun, and the trigger is insane. I can't wait to shoot mine- I recently just obtained a Yazell match pistol w/Lills grips, and between the 2- I think I own 2 of the finest black powder match pistols in-the-WORLD!
What more can be said???
Ckeshen- so glad to hear of your success!!! Just makes me all the more happy to own one- and makes me more anxious than ever to shoot mine when I get relocated!

Now you've got me wanting one!

I've only recently gotten into Black Powder shooting (after almost 50 years of shooting rimfire rifles & pistols, centerfire rifles & pistols, and assorted shotguns). My initial entry on the dark side was a Pietta 1858 Remington, and have since acquired an H&A underhammer rifle and built an underhammer "franken-pistol" on an H&A style action, but now I just HAVE to get me one of these. Already been in touch with Air Gun Headquarters and I'm waiting to hear back on how long I will have to wait (and how much it is going to cost) for one of these beauties.

:) D**n you both! :)

Trust us... it'll be worth it! Have finally gotten moved/resettled, now just in the "unpacking the piles of boxes" stage... and winter here in Maine. Come springtime- look out! :bthumb:
Somehow, I have no incentive to go out shooting when it's 4 degrees out this morning, a high of 15 or so today!

Steve-
I'm up in Winterport, just south of Bangor... a good ways up the state. Still coastal Maine, however. In fact, my house is 1400 ft off the Penobscot River, up on a bluff. Didn't want to have to deal with all the tourists in Southern Maine! I love it up here, though... although tonight is not a night to be out- freezing rain, the roads are horrible, until the crews sand/salt them. They DO take very, very good care of the roads here. Great road crews! Supposed to have sleet/freezing rain the next couple of days.
Of course, part of the secret to living in an environment like this is equipping yourself for it. 4wd pickups are the norm here... we bought a Subaru Outback just before coming up here, it's a great car for Maine... I've heard it referred to as the state car of Maine. Good snow tires on it and I'm good to go anywhere I need to. Proper footwear, clothes, coats, gloves, etc.- Florida winter wear doesn't hack it up here!!
Most people can't believe we retired/moved here from Florida.. most people do it the other way 'round! I wouldn't be anywhere else, though... I love it here. The people are amazing... friendly, open, strangers say "Hi" to you- and hold open doors for you- saw someone hop out of his car in a Home Depot parking lot to help an older guy loading some things in his car.. we live on a little loop, a small neighborhood in the country that has 9 houses on it... nearly everyone has stopped by to say "Hi" and welcome us to the neighborhood, bring us a plate of cookies or something, kids have given us "Welcome to the neighborhood" cards... you just don't find that very many places anymore, and I- for one- love it. And driving through small towns here- and seeing an American flag on every flagpole- makes me feel like I truly live in America now.
I wouldn't trade this for anything. :bthumb:

Wes,

I'm familiar with the area,. When I was younger, I had a great-uncle in Augusta that we'd go visit for a few days every summer - don't seem to ever get too far past Kittery these days. If you've been a Floridian your whole life, you're about to find out what the word "Winter" really means.

I've been a New Englander all my life, and although I do enjoy having four seasons, I'm getting to the point that I'd trade winter for one more of either spring, summer, or fall. :)

Stay warm!

Steve
