Fedderson barrel and Magpul 22X stock

I recently upgraded my wife's 10/22 with a Fedderson 16.25" barrel, Magpul X22 stock, Kidd two stage trigger and Kidd bolt. Yes it is now a much better shooter but not quite like my stock bolt CZ and Savage 22 LR's. I don't think I can blame the trigger group now but am looking for suggestions for improving the accuracy.

The Fedderson barrel has a date stamp of 3/2006 so I guess it was sitting around the shop for some reason the past 14 years.

Anyway I tried full floated and then tried the Magpul barrel support. Neither produced the tack driver I was expecting. I recently tried a two sided thick (1/8") tape about 1/2" from the receiver and it was better but the consistency changed during the range session. The shots seemed to drop down ever so slightly.
Maybe I should try the tape more towards the end of the barrel? Or maybe some other type of shim material?
Any suggestions?

I guess it is time to call Fedderson about his old little .920 bull barrel.

I shot the gun again yesterday and it was almost embarrassing. It seems to like CCI SV best but Center-X, Wolf MT, SK STD+ or Norma Match 22 had even worse consistency.
I couldn't even shoot the tack driving range game target as the shots never followed POA the same.

I do have a very nice Ruger Walnut stock I bought years ago to replace the cheap plastic one it came with. Will require sanding the barrel channel for the wider barrel. Maybe...???

Thanks all!

All my Feddersen barrels are tack drivers and usually shoot pretty well even with the cheaper ammo. None of my Feddersen's have ever shot CCI SV very well though. Curious as to how your barrel/receiver fit is? Was it really tight or did it just fall right in? If it was a bit loose fitting you may want to consider a Gunsmither's block (which I recommend for any 10/22) to prevent any possible barrel droop. Give Feddersen a call and explain what's going on. They have excellent customer service and they will get you straightened out.

It would be good to shoot the barrel in more than one stock if possible ...but in your case you seem to have done plenty of work to try different things with the barrel float and with good quality ammo. It should shoot groups smaller than a nickel and plenty of Feddersen rigs will keep them under a dime at 50.

One Email to Fedderson with a detailed explanation of the problem and I received a return UPS label and a promise to take care of it.

I wasted lots of match ammo on this but right now their solution is good enough for me. :)
Great customer service so far.

BTW, the barrel to receiver fit was snug. I didn't have to hammer it in and it also did not drop right in. Just a little bit of lubricant and twisting.

Good luck on getting some good shot groupings with the repaired barrel crown.
Let us know how it goes as I have read some great reviews about their accuracy.
I strictly shoot standing out to 40-50 yards open sights but cannot handle the heavy
steel barrels.
All I can find to shoot are Tacsol x-ring open sight barrels.

Shot today with the same Ruger walnut stock but sporting my new KIDD 16.5" barrel. After about 25 rounds it settled down to a few 1/2" groups (50 yds) using lower grade Federal Target. The warm up shots were as good as the Fedderson barrel did after a couple bricks of match ammo.

Happy it wasn't the stock but I'm really pissed I wasted so much ammo and un-necessary X22 stock modifications because I was told the barrel shot good.
Fedderson has offered a refund which helps pay for some of the wasted match ammo, that is when I actually see the refund...

The X22 stock will come back out of the junk parts pile now for another try. IMO it will never look as good as the walnut stock.

Update: Fedderson refund came in. Looks like they do back up their products. I'm a lot less unhappy.

Man, sorry you got a bad one. I bought a Feddersen 18" .920" barrel for my late 70's mfg 10/22 and have been very happy with it. I put a Kidd Single stage trigger on it yesterday and shot a .156" 5 shot group at 25 yds without wind flags. I then shot an IR50/50 target with it (again at 25 yds) and shot a 250-16X target. Considering this is not a benchrest rifle, I was very pleased with that. When the snow melts, so I'm not trudging in knee deep snow, I'll shoot it at 50 yds over wind flags. I shot Eley Match ammo thru it that I had left over from my benchrest shooting days. This barrel really likes Eley.

The good thing for you is that they are giving you a refund. Bad barrels can happen to any barrel maker. When I was benchrest shooting I had some mediocre ones, some good ones and a couple great ones all from some of the most respected barrel makers in the country.
