Exercised My 40X Today

I have been neglecting my USMC 40X for a while. So today I took it to the range for some exercising. Only fired about 50 rounds through it. Was cheating and used a Lyman Super Targetspot in 25X off the rest. This was the last group that I fired. By this time the wind was a 9 MPH with gusts to 15 mph. May have to put it in the rotation more as I shoot rifle once a week.

No pics of the rifle?
That's just cruel!
Will try to remember to take a picture of it tomorrow.

I just picked up up a CMP 40X and got a rough zero on it this past weekend.

I hope mine ends up shooting that well too.

Very nice shooting.
Thank you for the kind words. It probably will, just have to find the right ammo that it likes.

I just had a little time and could only shoot at 25 yards at the indoor range. Showed some promise with several really tight one hole groups with a good lot Eley Club. When I get a nice day I'm looking forward to stretching it out.

40x is a great rifle. I use mine (40XB heavy barrel) in 3 position competitions. Just switched to Eley Team and shot a 283. 90 offhand, 95 kneeling and a 98 prone.
With this rifle I’ve won the leagues most improved shooter 3 years in a row, clubs 1st place shooter, and clubs championship trophy 2 years straight. So I’d definitely say these rifles can shoot.

You da man shooting that XB standing! but at least you only had to struggle through 10 rounds standing. We shoot 60 shot postal matches in the winter on the A-17, but sitting instead of kneeling. Last one I shot w my USMC 40X (taper barrel) in January; 199-12X prone, 194-10X sit, 144 standing. I shot standing last, and last thing I did that morning, so was probably a bit worn out, but that was horrible, really struggling. 90 is a great score.

Forgot to mention that the day I shot the above target was an anniversary for me. It was 56 years to the day that I first started down the yellow brick road by placing my feet on the yellow footprints at Parris Island.

That is surprising to me that it likes "Fast Stuff". How fast is the "Fast Stuff"? Every 40X that I have ever owned preferred standard velocity. Usually Eley or SK. The last target that I posted was SK Rifle Match, it is advertised at 1073 FPS at the muzzle and 1006 FPS at 50 yards. Many years ago I did find some Remington Sub Sonic that worked well for the price, then you could not find it for a while. When I finally found some more they had changed something and the pretty little groups were long gone. The fast stuff is usually less pricey then the standard velocity. So the $24 question is which brand of the fast stuff are you using.
