Loading up this morning for the final .1 of the ladder I have been working on with Lapua .308 brass, 210 M primers and Varget. Using the 41.6 from the last target set as a center point. Loads will be 5 each from 41.4 to 41.9. May seem like a lot of effort, but developing a load specifically for the " fly swatter" target using a .308 Savage bolt rifle takes a little more work than for generic bullseye shooting. I have been known to enjoy a good challenge and the focus on this one has been a hoot for the last couple of months. Whatta Hobby!

Hey, thanks for posting your loads. I am retiring this week and I'm looking forward to reloading for my 308 bolt. If you can believe it I've never had a chance to shoot it just yet. I did break down this week and bought a couple boxes of cartridges for it, but my long-term plan is to reload. I have all the components I need, just need the time.

I am too lazy to find out the perfect load, when i get sub moa i call it good enough for my uses. I do know it pays dividends to the benchrest shooter, but not so much for us offhand shooters. However, i do occasionally test and then its like, dang i shouldve tested this years ago.
Here is my highly scientific pizza liner target, im sure everybody will be looking for these, but sadly they became a victim of bidenflation... now the sad little pizzas are sold linerless.

I'm also retired and enjoy reloading 6.5cm. Looks like your testing is going well and will go out on a limb and say the 41.4 looks the most promising (disregarding the flyer). Did you chrono and get FPS to go with those? The reason I say 41.4 looks good is it looks like the faster the bullet the bigger the spread. Faster is not always better as I too found out with my 6.5. And let the barrel cool between loads which you probably already know.

For my 6.5 testing I was also able to include bullet jump (ogive to start of rifling) and my OAL is measured to the ogive. Compiled quite a notebook as well. My last testing of powder and jump proved to be the formula I stayed with. Golf balls at 300y is not a challenge lol. 1000y accuracy was excellent as well.

Keep us posted on your results and add the FPS if available. Cheers to retirement!

41.4 ended up being the choice. ran a couple more load ladders after the previous photo today with a temp of 25 degrees and a light wind. Last one was 41.3, 41.4 and 41.5 just for the halibut and 41.4 won. Supposed to be rainy tomorrow with another 3+ inches predicted. Expecting to spend some time loading a couple hundred 110 Sierra hp varminters in Lapua cases over 41.4 gn of Varget set off with 210M primers. Looking forward to attacking the flyswatter target with ammo ready to do the work. Whatta Hobby!

Good to hear, I had a feeling.
I sold my 2 older chrono's late last year in the nick of time just when the new Garmin Xero came out and bought that. Have nothing but kudo's for this unit. Simple, perfect shot data, tiny, and sits on the bench with you and not in front of the gun.
We got lots of rain coming too...grrrr.
Hi. Although I retired young. I've had a kind-of "dream job" for many years. I work mornings at my buddy's LARGE farm. Being an Engineer, I get to repair a lot of things and install landscape lighting, etc. VERY much fun, but the dream part, is he had me build 2 shooting ranges (one handgun and one rifle). I buy whatever targets I want and although he's not a gun 'person', he has a nice collection. I shoot almost daily. I'm NOT boasting, just stating facts.
I also bought the Garmin Xero Chronograph as soon as I could find one. I actually happened to find mine during the brief window that Amazon had a few. Now, they are pretty available.
I've owned (and enjoyed) my Oehler 35P chronograph for 4 decades. However, the Xero is SO easy to use, that's all I care to use now.
There is a tremendous business opportunity out there for someone that can come up with a small, stand-alone, wireless printer that would be compatible with the Garmin. Heck, the tiny printer in the Oehler works perfectly. The lack of a printed summary of a group test is the ONLY thing the Oehler has an heads up over the Xero.
wadda think?

I hear that you can hook it up to your smart-phone, and then maybe down load it later to your computer. I don't own a Garmin or a smart-phone so you are on your own there. The new Garmin is a game changer, it's so easy to use and set up that it's made every other chronograph obsolete for regular shooters. There are 3 used LabRadars for sale in gunshops in my home town. I really want to get one but can't bring myself to spend $600. I guess I will keep using the old Chrony, until it gets shot ( accidentally! )
