I got a brick coming I just hope it shoots like the old round nose Match Rifle black box did. I will update once I get some rounds down range.

The Ultra has the same BC as Tenex and the Eley sight gives the velocity at 1100fps while the Tenex is listed at 1040-1085. Not a heck of a lot faster. They do use different lubes. Tenex is Beeswax-tallow and the Ultra is EP2723.

I guess I'm wondering what makes it Long range"? Can't wait to hear how it shoots.

I posted a quick range session review over on the hide but here it is without attached pictures since I can’t attach any.

They shot poorly out of my two rifles. I won’t test them again until there are lot options to choose from.

1098 FPS (8.7 SD, 39.3 ES) was from the 25” 13t MullerWorks (brand new with 140 rounds through it) and 1127 (8.5 SD, 35.4 ES) was from the 23.5” 16t Krieger that is well seasoned. Temp was around 85 degs.

I absolutely could not get them to group with either rifle. The following are 5x5 group sizes with the Ultra at 50y with very light wind using the MullerWorks barreled rifle.
0.470”, 0.399”, 0.773”, 0.383”, 0.469” CTC

With that said, I took along a lot of Semi-Auto Benchrest that has shot really well with my other rifles and shot a 5x5 with the following groups with the MullerWorks:
0.284”, 0.348”, 0.194”, 0.244”, 0.316” CTC

I tried really hard to get the Ultra to group. Once my Vudoo gets back from warranty work I’ll run some Ultra through it to see. But right now it’s 0 for 2.

You’re absolutely correct. However with the Ultra last I checked there’s no lot option (for now). It’s new so I’m sure a few people will test it anyways as did I. That said I do care about MV and the numbers as well but primarily accuracy from my rifle.

@wax had similar

1098 FPS (8.7 SD, 39.3 ES) was from the 25” 13t MullerWorks (brand new with 140 rounds through it)

Groups at 50
0.470”, 0.399”, 0.773”, 0.383”, 0.469” CTC

Chrono data of 1127 (8.5 SD, 35.4 ES) was from the 23.5” 16t Krieger that is well seasoned. Temp was around 85 degs.

I'll add to this soon as gather some numbers.

100 meters, 5-10 mph headwind with switches from both L/R at times.
So tough conditions, like some PRS matches.

CZ 457, 16" Lilja barrel that's picky about ammo. Typically get 1 to 1.25 inch Groups at this distance with eley club and the like.

First 5 to dirty barrel and confirm zero.

Next 10.
Adjusted down a bit and held for wind.

Then shot 25, fighting wind.

Chrono data same as everyone elses.

ETA- the last 10 shots, I stepped out to 185 yards on a steel ISPCA half size.
Wind was really gusting in front of a rain storm and I sent two off target.

At this distance I had to dial up less than usual, so it SEEMS it's long range potential might be good as far as trajectory goes.

I received a shipment of the Norma Extreme along with my Garmin chronograph on the third and did extensive testing on the 4th.

I fired four sessions, for a total of 90 rounds, all at 400 yards. I believe the only way to test long range 22 LR is to do so at on long range where variations in MV and BC have time to show themselves.

A vertical spread test at 400 yard of 35 shots resulted in a vertical spread of 16 inches. Eley Tenex which I have tested extensitivly at 400 yards has a vertical spread of around 13. One session when the wind conditions were very good produced a vertical spread of 9.5 inches.

Overall for the Norma the average MV was 1174 fps. Norma lists a MV of 1165. This is out of a 28 inch barrel. The standard deviation was 11.2 fps. This was what caused the large vertical spread.

Using these number I estimate the BC to be around what is advertized by Norma of .172 with an SD of BC of .004. These are both good numbers.

I'm going to be putting together a more extensive report on this testing and posting it in a couple of day.

So far. the Norma Extreme Long Range is not looking good.

However, the Garmin chronograph performed very well as many test reports have shown.

Ran 2 more boxes through my 54.18, 25" barrel. 50 on paper, 50 at steels.

300 yards, 78* with west winds (L->R) that started at almost none and built to 7.

Shot off target to confirm elevation and then sent 3 on paper. Went and looked , daled up and left. Sent 20.
Wind took 3 off target, dialed for wind again. Sent the last 30. Lost another off paper.

17" of vertical.

Chrono data.

Overall, not impressed.
Might try some later from another lot, maybe.

Team shoots better for me at a lower price.

I congratulate you for testing this "long range" ammo at long range.

You're right, not a good performance.

I get smaller vertical spreads at 400 yards with Eley Tenex. 15 inches or less. Best every 9.5 inches vertical spread under perfectly calm conditions.

That's very interesting. I wonder if that would have happened if not for Youtube and online public information sharing that reaches thousands of people, such as this website. I'm not really one to spend that much on ammo (at least not regularly) anyway, but based on reports there's no way I would purchase that ammo, even knowing every rifle is unique etc. - it just didn't seem to shoot for anybody. Hopefully they refund at least some of the money people spent on this and do better with future offerings. They have a bit of a hole to dig themselves out of after this release I think.

So I just replied to the recall email.

I tried to be honest and fair about my assessment of the Ultra long range AND their other premium lines as well.

My perception from both shooting and others reports here, is Eley has generally been slipping in quality and stated as much, in hopes they might actually listen.

I urge anyone else involved in this recall to do the same as well, IF you have been seeing a decline in the overall quality of their ammunition.

Maybe this will bring about some change in their QC, grading or production methods.

I think most of us understand that buying "Premium" ammunition is a bit of a lottery but there's a reason Lapua is almost impossible to find in stock, SK is hard to find but there seems to be plenty of Eley out there....a reason beyond production capacity, IMHO.
