I carry a 365XL and have a 322, both with the same optic.

I also have a Kadet and Kadet II kit for my CZ 75s.

I have a Colt Gold Cup Walther/Umarex 22 to match up with my 1911s.

So yes, I do get the appeal. The one downside is that I probably shoot 20 rimfire rounds per center fire rounds. It takes a minute to get used to recoil again.

 

I own pistols, subguns, and rifles that are duplicates in .22. For me the benefit of having a duplicate on 22lr is being able to shoot more, not necessarily training. With a 22 suppressed you can shoot in your backyard, basement, or impromptu range. Centerfire you need a true range. For real training I use centerfire. The .22 versions on some are these like the Stribog are just great fun to shoot!

Also one thing to consider is things like an FRT in an mp5 you can use centerfire but not with .22 version. You can put binary triggers in things like the 15-22 though, but not the same as a FRT.

I have a conversion kit for a Colt 1911. One for a Glock 9 mm. I do find training with .22 LR to be very helpful with pistols. Also letting someone new to such pistols to get comfortable with the layout prior to going with the centerfire stuff.

 

The “Bullseye Pistol” shooters usually do this. My brother shoots matching Pardinis in 22 and 32.

 

I have 22 conversion kits for 1911, Glock , Luger and ar15. I made my Astra cub in 22 short to be able to also shoot 25ACP with a different slide, barrel and mag. I always liked shooting 22 more pleasant.

 

My primary match gun was a S&W 686 revolver, and I used my 617 .22LR as its understudy. My 617 is the handgun I mostly shoot now.

I also have a vintage 6” K-38 revolver, and its understudy, a 6” K-22.

 

And, of course, there's always the Contender crowd.

FWIW, after over 65 years of shooting, some of it with switch-barreled guns (both long & hand types), I've found that I much prefer that my guns are of a single caliber/chambering, and like a separate gun for each chambering better. (YMMV)
