Drywall Anchor Snap Caps

I ordered some Hillman 4-6-8 x 7/8” yellow drywall anchors to use as snap caps, but apparently they have changed the design and the rims are too small and thin to work anymore. Anybody have any links to anchors that will work? Thanks.

Yes. I tried two different types that worked for folks in the past and they were a no-go. I probably heard about these on here and got exactly this on Amazon. They chamber and have a wide & thick rim. I only use them for adjusting triggers so don’t know how they’ll cycle in a magazine but that ain’t my thing. Heck, I got enough to send ya some if you want to try them. I got them on Amazon.

Some (actually many) semi auto pistols cannot be decocked. Also when messing with a trigger adjustment you want something in the chamber. Or checking indexing & timing on DA revolver.

Obviously nothing wrong with a spent case after cleaning. That was the old way. Using a case from the same gun. It is probably tougher maybe better. But brass can get sticky. The anchor can actually be much easier to use. Easy going in and out.

The anchor can be rotated, easy four times. Dirt cheap easy to use!

Apparently, Hillman just got the memo from CZ on how to mess up a good product.

What's wrong with using spent casings?

With soft plastic you get one trigger pull (?), with a spent case I get several pulls.
Smacking a spent casing will launch spent priming down your freshly cleaned bore. Stuff a wad of paper towel (or similar) into the casing before use to avoid this.

If you just want to uncock it hold the trigger blade while closing the bolt.?...Tom
This works fine for all of my bolt actions. Many semi-autos can be decocked by moving the bolt back against the cocked hammer and pulling the trigger. 10/22 and AR-7 are both like this. I've also modified my Mark pistols to decock in the same way. My pump action Savage m29 is easy to pull apart to lower the hammer without a dryfire or snap cap, so that covers my 22s without external hammers.

I never dryfire and have now retired my drywall anchors. It's great not messing with them any more.

I was going to mention this but TE beat me to it. Make sure the wad of paper towel (or TP etc) is tight enough so that doesn't get ejected into the bore.

I've been using spent cases for years and they can sometimes be a pain too depending on the gun or chamber you're trying to put them in. I have a container of dry wall anchors shown in post number 2 and still use those a lot

I use an app for Amazon. Try searching for “Hillman 117121” or “Hillman 4-6X7/8” and you’ll see that container pop up for sale on Amazon and can go from there. I see smaller packages pop up too but all I know is that the ones in the 625 Ct pack I bought from Amazon work.

I hope they haven’t changed since I got mine three months ago! 😁

I tried many iterations, including your suggestions, and couldn't find them.

Hmmm, why didn't it come up for me? I specified all departments.

Anyway, thanks Barrelhorses.
