Daisy 880 help

Found a very early 880 while cleaning out for downsize; seals were broken; felt fell apart; etc etc.
Bought a seal kit; cleaned everything up; smoothed the bolt/receiver area; lubed with ND 30 weight oil on felt; bit of white lube on trigger parts and on hinges.
Thing will not pump up at all: can't hear air leakage, but am hard of hearing; did try the tissue thing, but no joy.
Looking for suggestions; help, please!
Know I can buy a new one for less than I'm putting in this, but I have owned it from when they 1st came out, and want to pass it on to a grandkid.

Did you try cocking the action before you pump?

This is from a FAQ on the GTA website -
Q) My 880 won't pump air. What do I do?

A) simplest answer is, the bolt needs to be cycled to pump air. 2nd most common cause is lack of oil or the wrong oil. 30 weight non detergent is all you want to use. Disregard one of the largest air gun blogs claims that pellgun is the same thing. It is not. 30 wt nd is the only oil for an 880. Make sure the foam wiper at the piston is 1) still there and 2) wet with oil. If it is still there and dry, it will take 4 to 6 good drops of oil to wet it enough. This foam wiper is what keeps your oring oiled.
I know next to nothing about the Daisy guns. All my pumpers are Sheridans, Banjamins and Crosmans.

First, let me say I am 74 1/2; been wrenching cars, particularly engines, since I was 12; built my 1st engine from the bottom up when I was 14; have had a LOT of DUH! moments in my life!
The O ring which goes on the foot valve to the air chamber was just a very tiny bit too small in the OD, and apparently wasn't doing its job; replaced it with next size up, and EUREKA!; Houston, we have a launch!
It's things like this that keep me humble.(Somewhat!)
