D-Day, June 6, 1944

Much respect for all who stormed the beaches, fought, bled and died. And went on to win World War 2 and build America.

The Greatest Generation.

Thanks to all of our war veterans. Especially those who gave all of their tomorrow's for our today at Normandy and though out WWII . We must never forget their sacrifice. We should remind those who have forgotten and those who were never taught the cost of tyranny and the price to defeat it. Thanks to all who have served.

I was never in the military so all that I can offer to our military veterans is my feeble little thanks. June 4th Battle of Midway and June 6th D-Day Normandy landings are two of the most important anniversaries from World War Two. Whenever I see the pictures and films of the huge rows of graves at Normandy, read about the entire squadrons of torpedo planes all being shot down with the crews killed, the men struggling desperately to save the USS Yorktown, and all of the incredible luck, bravery, skill and determination displayed during those critical days of June that seem so long ago, I cry. I just can't hold it back, especially when the burials at sea get shown.

Thanks to all that gave so much so we could have what we love.
My wife's grandfather landed the day after and made it to
Havrenne Belgium where his tank was finally destroyed. He was the only survivor of his tank crew.
We visited the village, Havrenne, he was guarding in 2019.
This is the thanks they have dedicated to all who helped save their village.

I guess age is finally beginning to slow my thought process ... until reminded by another ex-RAF colleague early yesterday morning ... I realised the significance of the date on the calendar ! Yet, up till now, this has been one I have always recalled.

As Cadets at the RAF Engineering College at the time, we were not directly involved, but who can forget that sleepless night as the steady roar of engines on thousands of low-flying heavily laden Daks and Lancs passed overhead ... and the morning announcement on the BBC of the actual invasion.

One noted result in the following days was that "The Island" was floating a little higher in the water as the immense weight of military equipment and men, stashed away along every country road and wooded thicket, was removed .... or so it was said !
