CZ replacement barrels

I’m wanting to change my Pro varmint from a 16” barrel to a 20” varmint barrel ! Has anyone else done this or has anyone had any experience with buying a replacement barrel from them and how did they shoot ?

CZ-USA has the 20" varmint barrels in stock:

Be aware that some folks have experienced less than stellar service from CZ recently. There are some recent threads here about those experiences.

Changing the barrel is so easy, even I can do it. I don't think you'll run into any issues fitting a 20" varmint barrel into your Pro Varmint stock.

Yeah it’s the same diameter just longer ! I got on their website and seen they had them in stock if I could get one that shot equally as good as the 16” that’s on it I would be thrilled didn’t know about the issues with CZ thanks for the info !

@Groupshooter Regarding how a new barrel will shoot is mostly a luck of the draw sort of thing. Most barrels will shoot ok, a few will be outstanding and a few will be turds. I think most people have eventually received their orders from CZ, but some have been delayed a while. Also, it appears that CZ is now requiring a signature at delivery which makes it hard for some people who aren't always at home.

I just bought a Varmint model with full intention of just using its action, rebarreling with a longer custom one and moving to a chassis (Done - moved to MDT Oryx). I took it to the range, sighted in at 25yds, and moved to 50 yds and shot this first group with just CCI SV. It's roughly a 0.3" group.

I'll shoot it some more but I'm in a dilemma. The 20" Varmint barrel shot so well, I won't be inclined to replace it with a cool looking LIlja.

I bore scoped this barrel. It was the best finished barrel I own compared to my Ruger, Shaw and Savage 22LR barrels.

I ran out of time as the outside temperature was 100F and the guy next to me was spraying me with his muzzle loading flintlock.

10-4 I don’t blame you for wanting to run some rounds through it that’s a great group as barrel horse has stated you can get a good one a great one or a notta !
I’ve seen some good groups out of a buddy of mines ! The one on my pro varmint is good but I would like a little more length for the weight I think that’s where he’s getting me at !

The CZ barrels for the 455/457 series are imho, excellent. From the company , they come with a magazine and a tool And at one time they even included a magwellspacer and pin on the 22lr barrels incase you were switching from a Wmr or Hmr. I have never had a bad one , and I have accumulated quite a few. My favorite is the 24 inch heavy taper. I just shoot them better than the shorter ones.

Here comes the start of the big rabbit hole. I’ve already been in the small rabbit hole!
So this varmint barrel swap has me thinking. I have a synthetic 457 American with the thin tapered barrel that I’ve already swapped the stock for a wood varmint stock (not a pro varmint).
It shoots what I consider very nice groups if I do my job 3/4”@50yards, 2”@100yards.
If I put a 20” heavy varmint it “should” shoot better. Correct?

Well I have a Pro Varmint and it shoots consistently 1/2” and under groups if im shooting good ! Mostly in the .3s upper.2smy buddy has a 457 varmint him and I are pretty evenly matched in our ability his rifle will be consistent.2s and will get in the teens and single digits fairly regularly ! I think that he is getting me with the extra weight the other 4” contributes ! It’s worth a couple of hundred bucks to see IMO !

Well I ordered a 20” varmint barrel off gunbroker today.
Cool thing was the seller Norry’s rod and gun shop is a long lost relative that we just found about 6-7 years ago while passing through PA. Still haven’t met them yet. Northumberland PA has a Norry gun shop, Norry gun club, and Norry pharmacy.
I told them before I bought the barrel that I was distant family but it didn’t seem to matter or get me a better price 😂

Guess I'm a bit late, but I'll share anyway. Got a new in box 20" Varmint barrel through our local classifieds for $150. So far, it's had a steady diet of Norma, and consistently groups around 1/2" at 50 yards. I'm using this barrel while testing the Athlon 15-60, and when I can keep my eye properly aligned, this barrel puts five rounds into a nice ragged hole. I'm sure the potential is there for better accuracy, but I get that Norma so cheap, it's about all I shoot.

Heck yeah that’s what I’m wanting to hear I got one bought today not that cheap but it’s ordered anyway I pretty much shoot SK and Lapua my buddies Varmint is shooting really well the more he shoot’s it my Pro Varmint is shooting a 1/2 inch and under at 50 pretty consistent in the .2s and 3s I am hoping to get it in the.2s and below with the longer heavier barrel !

QUESTION!
I have a 455 American that I like very much. It shoots well. Will the 20 in. CZ Varmint barrel increase accuracy, and would it require stock barrel channel modification? Any recommendations for a third party barrel that wil fit the standard channel, won't break the bank and increase accuracy? Or...should I just put the money I'd spend on a barrel toward a new rifle?
Decisions, decisions!:)

The American has a tapered barrel right

I bought a varmint 20” barrel a couple days ago. Hopefully it gets here soon.
This is what I get with my 457 American with NormaTac22 right now @50 yards and I’m happy with it. The purple ring is 1/2”

What I’m hoping for is better and more consistent groups @100 yard group than what I’m getting now

It’s never a guarantee when you get a new barrel what it will shoot like but I’ve been seeing good enough results out of my buddies to take the chance on buying a factory CZ barrel heck mine was only $197.00 taxes shipping and all that isn’t much more than I pay for certain bricks of shells !

#52 ·
That’s 10 shots at 50 yards with the precision with CCI standards velocity I’ll take that all day long at $4.99 per 50
I've got some connections, and get my CCI for $3, and Norma for $3.50 per box. It's hard to justify the cost of SK when the results are more than "good enough" at a fraction of the price.

I watched a video on it doesn’t look too hard
Got my new barrel.
Any tips tricks for swapping out barrels?
You just have to take out your action screw there’s 2 screws holding the barrel in loosen those up pretty good slip your old barrel out get the new one lined up and back in and I want to say the video I watched said 48 inch pounds to tighten the two screws up on your barrel but I’m not Positive on that one put it back in the stock tighten your action screws up to your specs and bam you’re done ! You might check on the 48 inch pounds seems extreme to me but that’s what the cat said
