Been shooting my CZ 457 Synthetic the past month. Bought it mainly to shoot NRA small bore silhouette matches and squirrel hunting. The problem with that is
there is only one Shooting Club around my area that shoots NRA Silhouette Matches and that's on Sundays which I can't do. Hunting is just a thought, due to extensive
Emphysema and COPD ( Thank you Viet-Nam & Agent Orange )I doubt I'll be climbing the mountains here in PA. looking for Tree Rats. What was I thinking ???? I was down in Florida for the past 6 years and I should have looked into what type 22 LR competition is available where I'm living now. The 457 Synthetic is more then capable to perform those initial task and quite accurate for what it is. A light weight sporter rifle. I just got reinstated at the Rifle/Pistol club I used to belong to before moving to Florida. I've been Bench Rest shooting and speaking with other small bore shooters. Come to find out that there are three local clubs within 10 to 40 miles that host ARA Matches monthly. Well I got bitten by the Bench Rest Bug. Did a ton of research, and although the 457 Synthetic Model would be good enough to start, the 457 Varmint MTR is one of the most popular Factory Class rifles used around my area. Finally found a one in stock, on-line for 799.00. so I jumped on it they are really scarce, should be at my FLL guy around the 9th of July.

Thanks for your service and congrats on the new CZ Varmint MTR, you're going to love it as I do both of mine. For competition they both love RWS R-50 followed by Eley Tennex & SK Rifle Match, of course that's lot # dependent. For our weekly just throwing lead down range they both like Norma TAC/MATCH-22 followed by CCI SV & Federal Automatch. I also use a CZ 457 Synthetic for squirrel hunting as well, great little rifle for sure.

Thanks for your comments guys. I have a feeling I'm really going to enjoy this Bench Rest Game. I've shot quite a lot of Silhouette Matches both IMSHA & NRA in my days and was really big into IDPA before I moved to Florida. While in Florida I shot NRA Bullseye Pistol with 22 & 45 cal guns. The club I belonged to there had weekly matches, talk about a Humbling Discipline, 25 & 50 Yards one handed with Iron or Red Dot sights. It was fun though and I did manage to shake a few into the Bull. I will no longer shoot IDPA with Bad Knees and Bad Lungs I cannot see myself at 76 running around getting up and down trying to beat the clock, with a loaded gun in my hand.......a Disaster Waiting Happen. Nope just sit on a bench, prop up my gun, squeeze the trigger, and look for a thousand reasons why I didn't hit the dot :) sounds like Fun to me (y)

RickBK1948 - Welcome Home Brother… thank you for your service. :merica: Congratulations on the 457 Varmint MTR. I’m betting you will enjoy that addition. I can totally relate to your last post - I attend what I call “Me. Myself, & I” matches these days. Select 2-3 similar firearms and have my own competitions. Today I am heading to an indoor range and will be shooting one of my High Standard Victors alongside a Colt Woodsman Match Target and I have a 457 LRP that needs the optic sighted in. I have a few CZ rimfires and enjoy shooting them all. Get yourself some SK Std Plus, Rifle Match, or Pistol Match ammo to try in that new Varmint MTR - I find that it usually performs well in all my CZ 45x 22s. ;)

I have a Brick of S&K Rifle Match and some CCI SV on the shelf waiting to be eaten up by my new CZ !

I've owned a few MTR's, then build something and trade or sell the MTR; then get a I want one thought!
Buy another one etc etc.

Latest one is going through a cosmetic redo
Scope coming off
Champions choice 10" sight extension and adapter going on
With Anschutz sights for Iron Sight Mini Palma shooting, maybe indoor light rifle offhand local matches this winter.

Should be a fun project.
Champions Choice was OUTSTANDING with CS. On this order
The adapter was out of stock, they made one up for me and got it out in, less than a week.
Phoned me and explained the two shipping boxes etc, Great Company.

Good fortune with your MTR and appreciate your service!

When I was living in Nashville I would sometimes stop at their store. If I weren't careful, it would get expensive FAST!

They're a great company to do business with. In fact, I bought my Anschutz from them.

I ordered mine from LockedLoaded as well. Shipped in 5 days following actual receipt of FFL info. They had 5 when I called to check stock qty. Took a while to get due to bad weather and my FFL being closed for several days but that is not their fault. Would definitely check with them if they still have them in stock.

Just bought one last week from guns.com and it will/should be at my FFL on Monday (tomorrow) for inspection and processing.

Owned about every model of the 457 and kept the MTR, made the mistake of selling my LUX so had to buy another one. The LUX is a skinnier version of the MTR that reminds me a lot of the 452 Super Luxe I never should have sold, but did. Be patient with breaking the MTR barrel in and it's as accurate as any rifle around. Over the past couple of years, I did grind the plastic pillars out and replaced them with stainless steel ones cut from stock bought at Ace hardware and bedded both the action and the first inch of barrel. Also epoxied in the lug behind the bolt and learned to stand the rifle on its butt to torque first the rear bolt then the front one, both to 30 inch lbs. Guns are as individual as people, but mine loses some accuracy at higher torque settings. I also replaced the original screws with cap head ones that hold up better. Mine likes Norma TAC-22 and generally will shoot about 2400 on an ARA target with it. I've only gotten 2450 with Eley Match so will give up the 50 rather than pay that much more for ammo. It holds its own in 200 yard silhouette on NRA animals. Best score was a 43 this past year as I recall. Our club adds a "lollipop" at each distance to keep things interesting. And turkeys seem to be my nemesis. The LUX is actually fond of CCI blue box but the occasional flyer is inevitable in ammo of that price. Too bad that SCAR triggers aren't available anymore as that really was the best modification I've made to it. Congrats on finding a great rifle, enjoy !
