Hi. New to rimfire both shooting and forum. I have a 10/22 i bought just to have some fun shooting in the backyard. That led me to a potential rabbit hole. I stopped before I started to pull the proverbial trigger on parts for that rifle. In my search for possible 10/22 left handed parts I found CZ457 left handed rifles. I have been looking and reading all about CZ 457. But there is not a lot that compare the CZ left handed models. So I am looking for input from the highly intelligent left brain dominant shooters. What model did you choose and why? And did it work out for you? Now for what I plan to do is to use a heavy barrel with a silencer. I will be using it for target/ranger and plinking at home. I have no plans to shoot competitive or to hunt with it. I am think of the CZ 457 VARMINT LH. But I no it is not threaded. So I would have to do that. The CZ 457 P. I woudREMIUM LH is threaded but no heavy barrel. And finally the CZ 457 AMERICAN LH. I would prefer to have a 16~20". I am on the fence about replacing the stock. Only would if I enjoy it more than my other range rifles. Budget is around $2500 for gun, suppressor, and scope. thanks for the forum and it's great members.

I just got here earlier this month as I was in the same boat as you. The gentlemen here have helped me tremendously.

I was torn between the Savage Mark II with a Stainless Steel barrel and a Thumbhole stock and the CZ 457. I went with the CZ 457.
Look up my threads under my name and you can follow the journey.

Before I forget, there are no aftermarket stocks that I am aware of. I checked with (Boyd?) They said there is more to it than just cutting a notch for the bolt, so they don't make them for 10% of the population.

Anyway I went with the Left Handed Varmint as I wanted a Bull Barrel 20" Not necessarily a Match barrel. I also wanted a threaded barrel but my gun-smith will thread the barrel for about $100. which is a lot cheaper than a new barrel.

My CZ was delivered to me yesterday. my range has their 50 yard range closed for repairs so I hope to make it to a neighboring range to sight it in before this winter storm reaches me.

As for the Silencer I ordered the AB Little Bird One of the main reasons is the diameter is the exact same as the barrel of the rifle so it just looks like a longer barrel and it seems to work pretty well although a bit unusual I myself am a bit unusual as well.

I also ordered a Harris BiPod, and a Vortex Optics Diamondback HP Rifle Scope 4-16x scope.

So my all in cost WITH tax and shipping / transfer fees etc.

  • CZ457 LEFT HANDED $600
  • HARRIS BIPOD $104
  • VORTEX DIAMONDBACK SCOPE $199.
  • SCOPE RINGS, MAGAZINES, DO-DADS, ETC $150
  • AB LITTLE BIRD $320
  • TAX STAMP AND TRUST $230
  • TAXES AND FEES APPROX $150
  • THREADING BARREL $100
APPROX TOTAL : $1853 o_Oo_O

I posted this in your original thread, but it seems appropriate to throw it in here too. I had a look at the stock layout today.

I can see a way that the base features could be made ambidextrous. Only the notches for the bolt and safety really need to be changed over. I could design a chassis system that could do either.

It really doesn't look like anything too complicated. To be honest I think they just can't be bothered.
:-(

Dammit, now I'm thinking about designing it in CAD and 3D printing it. It's quite a project.

I got the 457 Varmint LH in 22LR, but also got a 22WMR barrel for it. I'm in Australia and all the CZ barrels are threaded here, which is weird because we are not allowed to have silencers. It does prove they are made though. I don't get why they aren't sold in the US like that, but I'm sure there's some strange reason.

I'm really happy with the rifle. I shot some sub MOA groups with it, but need to work on my hold to get better consistency. Range safety officer was super impressed with it - sight in groups that were heading for 1/2 MOA with cheap standard velocity CCI. It seems to like anything standard velocity or subsonic with a round nose. The first groups with CCI Mini Mag HP were a bit large but when I went back to them after about an hour testing other ammo the groups had closed up quite a bit. Groups with Eley Standard were a little larger than CCI subsonic, but to be honest I was struggling with wind and fatigue by that time.

Basically, I think the gun shoots better than I can. I know factory barrels are bit of a crap shoot, but CZ do verify all barrels for sub MOA groups.

There doesn't seem to be any after market stock maker doing stocks or anything in CZ left hand, which might be a problem later down the track if I want to change it.

I couldn't get a Picatinny rail in LH for it, so had to go with standard scope rings. LH does limit your choices quite a bit, but after a lifetime shooting right handed weapons and struggling, I'm happy with my decision. Note that I'm right handed but left eye dominant. I always thought I could get used to shooting right handed but that always resulted in eye strain and poor groups that started off good but got worse progressively.

Just to add, if you buy the heavy barrel Varmint you can also put the MTR barrels on it. If you buy the American the stock will only take the sporter barrels, unless you hog out the stock to make room for the heavy barrels.

Fellow southpaw here. I too grabbed a LH varmint when they came out.
Traded my RH 457 Varmint for it and kept my KRG Bravo.

Converted the Bravo from RH to LH as I mention here: https://www.rimfirecentral.com/threads/bravo-conversion-from-rh-to-lh.1292875/unread

This is a fairly straightforward conversion from RH to LH. Folks at KRG claimed it was common. Although not common enough for them to put a LH version in their catalog....
