CZ-452 Military Trainer (Got One)

Guys I bought a CZ-452 Military Trainer from Bud's Gun Shop a few days ago.

I was surprised to find them in stock there, new, since I've heard they stopped making them some time ago.

Needless to say, I am INCREDIBLY excited to own one of these as I've heard nothing but good things about them. I love to shoot with open sights and I hear the Military Trainers are specifically made for open sight shooting. I have been interested in a bolt-action .22 for greater reliability over most autos and possibly higher accuracy as well.

I plan to use the gun for mainly recreational target usage at the range (non competition), plinking, and occasional squirrel hunting. I've never ate a squirrel but Dad says they're good if cooked right and it seems like a LOT of fun.

I already bought a few different quality loads for the gun like Eley Match and Target and Norma USA. I also bought a 10-round polymer CZ magazine and a Romanian M69 training rifle sling (I've since read those slings aren't great but it was only $5).

I probably won't do a thing to the gun as I love the idea of the tangent sights being able to shoot all the way out to 200 meters (I assume meters not yards). Are those accurate? What type or velocity of ammo are they calculated for?

I will be sure to post pictures and my initial impressions and a range review once I have the gun in hand. Any recommendations, tips, or comments for a new CZ-452 owner are greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for having me here everyone! :bthumb:

452 17HMR Trainer

Congrats on the 22lr Trainer and thank you for the post. Love to see some pics and the reason that I am thanking you is that my 452 17HMR Trainer is sitting in the back of my safe and this post will nudge me in bring it out and do some plinking and paper punching.

Great find! The CZ 452 Special (Military Trainer) is one fine rifle. I got one about 6 years ago, it was gathering dust in a LGS and he was willing to part with it for $270! It's still a favorite rifle to shoot. You are going to love yours!

THE very 1st time I shot my Trainer was at an NRA sanctioned silhouette match. The first shot at every animal was a hit using the tangent sights...so, yes they are accurate. Least mine is.

I think I was using Eley Target, in the yellow box.

I don't know what velocity the sights are calculated for.

I just got one last week. Love it-it's unbelievably accurate, solid and smooth-but I've got to put a scope on it for squack. I get too many opportunities that are too far off to engage with the iron sights. My eyes' fault; not the rifle's. I've got a K4 lying around here I plan to install before too long...
Congrats.

Spunk puppy;

If you're going to be hunting with it, do try the Winchester PowerPoints, X22LRPP. In some CZ's they are incredibly accurate and offer excellent terminal performance. They are a 40 grain HP at an advertised 1280 fps. Also, if you're going to be field hunting, save up & get a Turner Saddlery 1907 pattern military sling, & then put it in Outdoor Connection Titan sling swivels. The sling is a very high quality product & those swivels won't break, Uncle's did.
