Hello I am sorry to here you are having so much trouble with your new rifle mine also keeps getting better every time I shoot it just got done running 100 rounds thru it with only four stove pipes I think somtimes it is also the ammo we use in it mine likes winchester xperts and CCI blazers and fed bulk crap.:bthumb:

mine got 18 rounds in it before the trigger locked completely, as if it was on safe no matter what. in the 18 rounds, about 10 cycled normally. most jammed, shaved some of the casing. out of the box it looked like a fire had been started inside of it. very, very dirty. sent it off for repair. real scary for me. my GSG 1st gen seems to be built much, much better. I think I blew $549 on junk.

That is the route I went. Mine(TacSol)is on an Anvil Arms stripped lower I built, using a CMT LPK along with a RRA two stage match trigger that is about to be swapped out for a CMC drop in trigger unit. Once I got rid of the MilSpec notched hammer it has been flawless in function. CCI minimags are the ticket so far and they feed fire and eject like a thing of beauty. I hope that Colt and S&W both sell a ton of their 22LR ARs but a dedicated upper on an actual AR lower is the best way to go IMO.

So Colt really has nothing to do with this rifle?
Thats a shame :( I saw it for the first time yesterday and I put it on my #1 postiton to buy list. I saw it for $679

I bought a "Walther" Force1000 Air rifle and it seemed to have been built nice and solid. Well, 2 side screws keep coming loose and it isn't very accurate. I am going to give it another try, but I am not sure I got my monies worth. I may have to return it.
Why am I posting about my air rifle that doesn't work too well?
It's distributed by a company called, "Umarex". My rifle isn't made by Walther in Germany, it made in China.

Is the Colt M4 .22 made in China too?

i disagree with the "runaway boys" guy. I love this gun. it is well made, substantial feeling. very accurate out of the box. fun fun fun. easy to break down and clean. sure you can buy a ar lower and a dedicated .22 upper for HUNDREDS more, but ***. are we going to war? I shoot at targets cause it's a friggin fun father son thing to do. I don't give a crap about .223 or .308... I kill paper, and .22lr is just fine for that :Blasting_

I gotta put my .02 cents in here. I have had one about 3 weeks now and have about 600 rounds through her now. At the beginning I was getting some misfires but no misfeeds or failures to eject. Now she seems to be settling down and the only ammo that is notoriously unreliable seems to be anything made by Remington. I get failures to feed, failures to fire and eject with that garbage. CCI Mini Mags and Federal American Eagle seem to be the best although I have gotten a couple of misfires with the Federal. If I don't load all ten rounds and load only five as I do when firing for accuracy, there are no problems with it at all. I believe the more I shoot this thing the better it is getting. My biggest surprise is the accuracy though. My M4 version with it's 16.2" barrel is so accurate that if I miss the red bulls eye on a target and hit the 9 ring at 25 yards I am disappointed!!! This gun will literally cut the center out of the bull at 25 yards off hand with iron sights. I had one guy in the next booth watching with binoculars, and in disbelief, as the center disappeared from the target I was shooting at. I let him try it and he declared he was going to order one the next day. Anyway, I completely disagree with the OP on this gun. But then again my SIG Mosquito is nowhere near what most people have posted about its being a POS on this and other forums. Mine is great. You just never Know.

Just got back from shooting a friends Colt .22LR and it seemed to shoot ok. We put 180 rounds through it and only had two that FTF. We shot about 150 rounds of bulk Remington, these were what FTF, and then a mixed magazine of CCI, Winchester, Thunderbolts, and Stingers and they all fired without a hitch.

Although I am not overly impressed with the gun myself(at $600); I do have to say it was a blast to shoot and a whole lot cheaper than firing 180 rounds of .223 in my AR. I do have to say that I think Colt has a money maker on there hands and should do well until someone actually builds one that is truly worth the $600 price tag(just my opinion).

I look forward to seeing how the Colt compares to the S&W or the Sig; both should be out soon...let the best one win!!! Competition is a very good thing for the consumer and maybe a little price war will start.

I really like my Colt M4 but had a chance to check out the Smith & Wesson M&P15 22 this afternoon and the M&P just has more features I like. The barrel was not sleeved, the bolt hold open latch works and the M&P disassembles like a real AR. Once these become widely available I think they will outsell the Colts.

My fist time out with my M4 Carbine was a disaster.

The first round went bang and the second one went "click" You know the story by now, ftf after ftf. Took it apart, cranked the bolt screw one full turn and now it will shoot 7-8 rounds before the ftf's start again.

Two full turns and it would shoot maybe 15-20 rounds before the ftf's started again. Cranked that mother all the way in and then one turn out and it would sometimes get through a full clip. And just for kicks, every so often the original magazine would fall out while shooting. Fortunately I bought a second 30 rounder with the gun.

Called Umarex on the following Monday, they emailed me a call tag. Gun ships on Tuesday and they received it on Thursday. I got the gun back the following Thursday with a copy of the ivoice that they send to Colt.

Re-cut chamber to SAAMI? Standards
Replaced right side of slide assy.
Replaced bolt spring and extractor.
Replaced magazine catch.

They sent me a new 30 rounder along with the original which works just fine now. I give their customer service an A+ for taking care of the customer.

Unfortualey the gun still isn't anywhere near as reliable as I can accept. After a couple hundred rounds the ftf's start again. Yes, I have cleaned and lubed before, during and after shooting. All told I have probaly got 2000 rounds through it. (Yes, I am a stubborn guy sometimes)

Note: Ammo used has been CCI mini-mags and both the Federal and Winchester bulk pack along with some Federal 510. No one ammo was any more reliable than the other. Winchester Super-X would not feed due to the large hollow point.

When I contacted my dealer and told him the story he said he will take one off his shelf and give it to his gunsmith to take out to the range and run it hard to make sure I get a good one. I give my dealer, Schryvers Gun Sales an A+ too for going to bat for a customer. (This is the first gun I have bought from him)

So, hopefully next week I can report back that I have a sweet new M4 Carbine that shoots like a dream. If not, its going back to Umarex for a new one which will be sold for an M&P 15-22.

I've had my Umarex for about a month. My son and I have really put it through it's paces. We have about 1,000 rounds through it. It really likes Federal bulk and Winchester X-pert bulk. I've also set it up to shoot standard velocity Aguila SE and Wolf Match Target ammo.

My son likes to hammer away as fast as he can accurately place a shot. (He's 13.)
I'm glad I only have one 10-round magazine or I'd be out of ammo soon.

Sounds like you've got a real lemon. Good luck.

I've owned an M4 Ops for a couple months now and the only ammo i've run through it is the Federal Auto Match. I am pleased to say that i have not had a FTF or other malfunction yet and my rifle shoots the darndest tiny little bugholes at 25yds that you can imagine. I am absolutely thrilled with my rifle although i would prefer a non-sleeved barrel, working bolt catch, and forward assist although none of those are real problems. I also would like to see these available with the folding front sight so scope blockage wouldn't be an issue. Time will tell how it holds up to extended useage, but so far, my rifle is flawless and i would buy again. I am looking forward to seeing some competition from other makers..........i just may have to have one of each brand! :bthumb:

May I ask how your dust cover is being held in the closed position, since these aren't supposed to be funtional?

For the record, I own the Colt M4 and the S&W MP-22, and like both. Both are reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot. The S&W gets higher marks from me due to it's more functional features like the bolt hold open catch, conventional AR trigger group, conventional AR take-down procedure, and non-sleeved conventional steel barrel.

sux man!.

i made sure i gave mine a good cleaning b4 i shot it. For a new rifle it was pretty **** dirty on the internals. There was actually left over metal shavings from mfr.
cleaned it out adjusted for HV and have gone though 400 rounds. with only 2 FTF
one from winchesters and the other from federal bulk 500. Loves Mini Mags.

First Time Out

Just bought my Colt yesterday on the way to the range. Ran a brick of WallyWorld Federal 550's thru it with out a hitch. No misfires, no FFT's, no FFL's. Shot a box of Remming Golden bullitts and got 3 misfires. All three had solid stricks on the rim, bad rounds. As accurate as any of my stock 10/22's (have 3). Guy next to me had a S&W M&P15-22. He was shooting Federal Champion brick and had no problems either. We traded for a bit and I liked the S&W also. I'll get one this week and try it out. Paid $499 for my Colt and he paid $449 for his S&W both from Academy in Houston. Will have to research the SIG.

I have had my Colt M4 .22 since early August and have fired close to 2000 rounds through it now. I have not had any problems with FTE, FTF, or light firing pin strikes now in the last 1300 rounds or so. The gun seems to favor Federal bulk ammo for accuracy but functions flawlessly with CCI and Winchester ammo. I quit firing Remington stuff in it after my first range outing. Groupings at 25 yards using the bulk ammo, and resting the rifle on the bench, usually results in a ragged one hole situation using iron sights. I found that cleaning the rifle is easy once you loosen the compensator and tap out the base pin. Removing the pin gets easier each time. Break Free and some long cotton swabs plus a good bore brush and patches is all I use. I can see this gun lasting a long, long time. Now with cottontail season in full swing, I plan to hunt bunnies with this beauty in our local desert. I haven't had this much fun with a .22 since I was a kid.

I certainly don't care what others buy, as I like to say "somebody has to lose it might as well be the other guy" but the AR's with a dedicated upper like the Tac-Sol and Spikes are the only way you can use your CF controls with the .22lr upper and a proper barrel. My Armalite with its Tac-Sol M4 upper easily shoots into sub one inch at 50 yards, runs great on Fed. bulk, Win. X-pert and Fed.510, the upper paid for its self in the first 1,000 rounds. If you're happy with your "pretend" AR's I'm happy for you.:bthumb:

I'm not sure what I "lost" in buying the Colt M4 OPS.
My M4 runs great, looks great, and is alot of fun to shoot.
That's really all I can ask.

On the other hand, it sounds like you "lose" the use of a "real" operable AR when using the .22lr conversion. :p

Seriously ... had I wanted an Armalite, I would have bought one. ;)

I bought mine about 5 weeks agao. I likes the Federal 550's and Minin-mags.
Mine came (brand new) with the tension screw already in the "forward" position.
I tapped out the pin w/o loosening the barrel, and also replaced it that way.
At the time I first re-set the tension, I was NOT aware of the "lossening" of the barrel aspect.
I used a dedicated punch and small rubber hammer. It fires fine.
