CO2 rifles with red dots

Any of you guys use red dots on your air rifles? I had a Ultra Dot lying around and decided to mount it on my steel breeched Pyramid Air Sheridan CO2 .22. It makes for a nice little back yard varmint gun and is very accurate to 20 yards or so. The receiver is grooved but I put on a pair of adapters first to get a bit more clearance for loading pellets.

I have one of those only a different brand and with a big ol' 30 mm tube sight I had laying around. It is as accurate as any BB gun I've ever shot and on full auto a coke can doesn't stand a chance. FUN GUN deluxe.

I have a couple of CO2 pistols equipped with red dots and really like them.

It is actually pretty dang accurate as far as any BB guns I have ever owned..The BBs stay in a nice little pattern in full auto..Kinda like the old carnival game when you tried to shoot the star out..I have not shot it much in semi auto for groups..Not alot of fun there for me anyway:) I just leave it on full auto for the most part. But I think it would have decent accuracy in semi auto though.. It seems to like the Honandy Black coated BBS the best..

I get around 150 shots on the two CO2s it holds..

Soda cans do not stand a chance against this fine weaponry for sure..:)

Sure, from the cheesy little Crosman/Daisy RDS $10 jobs on low end pump and CO2 pellet guns to nice $50 and up ones on more accurate SSPs and PCPs.

No different than iron sights, just easier for old eyes to quickly acquire a sight picture. The main thing is knowing the rainbow trajectory of a particular air gun and what range you're sighted in for. Usually 10 meters for mine.

True for me. Pellet crosses line of sight twice pretty quickly.

I imagine with my red dot height where it is, at 40' the pellet is crossing the line of sight the first time. I don't know the distance where it would cross again. Math? This is a three shot group on a 1" sighter.

Not mine, but here is a target from a guy of 100 bbs in full auto at 30 feet with his Crosman..

They only run around a claimed 430 FPS, pretty slow by some standards, but the fun factor for me trumps velocity..:) That was with the standard, somewhat crappy open sights..

I'm a swapper, too. I've not bought a PCP as I don't want to mess with the air tanks and pumps and stuff. I like my R7 springer with its scope as it's good to 35 yards on pine squirrels. The CO2 guns don't have the power but can be very accurate within their range. My pump-up Crosman 392 gets good accuracy but after 4-5 pumps, my shoulders get sore.

Only problem for me with red dots is my astigmatism. Often get a distorted oval shaped dot even with glasses on.

I have that same eye issue with them, though a couple higher priced ones I got to try out were more of an 'even flare' and I did generally plinkin' good.
The thing that Ive noticed more in using a 'glow'dot is that the brightness of it makes defining a dim, small target harder; and my inclination is to keep trying to hit smaller and farther yard 'spots/targets'.

I've used lasers on my pistols indoors for years, and I love it. I can shoot with my distance glasses and hit whatever it's illuminating. Using iron sights I need my PC glasses so I can see the front sight, and a scope I can wear anything (and adjust focus) and do fine.

My one brother is a tactical trainer, and he had been trying to get me to use a red dot instead. I put one on my 2260 and sighted it for 42y (the max in my back yard). I was amazed how quickly I could hit a target with it. While I prefer the scope or a peephole for my kind of shooting, I can certainly see where a red dot might be good for tactical type shooting.
