Are the grips close enough to fitting that you might want to try adapting them? You might try that if you have experience with cutting, refinishing, etc? If not, return them and continue your search for the right ones. The medallions are really cool!

 

I think I can make them fit. Really my question should have been will an expert recognize these as Challenger grips?

 

If you like the grips, why give a darn about an expert? Besides, if they are Challenger grips, you will undoubtedly have a very unique piece! Have fun. Shoot straight. Shoot often! :bthumb:

Your grips are from a Challenger III. The Challenger II grip had a medallion with the Browning "B" rather than the Buck Mark medallion on the C-III.

Thanks seaotter. Does anyone know if Browning made grips like this for the early Buckmark? I saw a photo of a micro that had a set that looked like these but I can't find a set for sale. Just trying to figure out if I should risk modifying these or send them back and keep looking.

 

The Buck Mark Challenge (no "R" for last letter) came out in 1999 with a grip that looks like it would fit. The Challenge grip is solid wood and not laminated as on the C-II and C-III. The early Challenge grip was not checkered. Some time later the grips were checkered. I haven't followed the early Buck Mark production to know if some other models before 1999 could fit. A search here on RFC Browning may help.

I have a 1997 buckmark 5.5" target. These are the grips on mine. I did not buy it new so not sure if they originally came with pistol
