CCI quality lately

I’ve always had very good luck with the quality of CCI ammunition. The last time I went to the range my LCP 2 in 22lr started experiencing light primer strikes. The gun was dirty and I was shooting a lot of different ammo so I didn’t think too much about it. Since then I have cleaned the gun including the firing pin channel and firing pin. I went out a shot yesterday and started experiencing the light strikes again. This time I payed attention to what ammo was in the gun. Out of 50 40gr Mini Mag segmented hollow points, I experienced 4 rounds that wound not go off. Three of these were able to fire after being rotated 180 degrees and retried. One round in particular was struck 5 times and still didn’t fire. After this I continued to run 50 Aguila Super Extra 38gr HP, 30 Remington Golden Bullets and 10 Federal Champion 40gr lead round nose. The CCI is the only ammo that was having any issue. The strikes look good as well so I can’t even count them as light strikes. My Ruger Wrangler revolver was experiencing the same issue with some 36gr Mini Mag hollow points recently as well. I’d like to try some new mini mags to see if it’s a bad lot or if they’re just not as reliable as they once were. For what it’s worth, out of all of my 22lr firearms, I’ve never had any issue with cheap Golden Bullet.

I used to save up for cci blue box, would save for a brick. When i was younger I am 66, I have shot more 22 ammo then i can count older now only about 200 to 300 rounds a day. By accident I found Norma tex $3.50 a box $35.00 a brick, cci is about $45. $50 a brick.I got a deal on ccii sv so i bought 2 bricks, now I have 3 ammo boxz of Norma also shot some cci in both rifles 455"s well I still have a brick and 2 boxs, and I only have 1 ammo case left, norma I bought 10000 rounds of norma got about 1/2 case2500 rounds. Yes CCI is not what it used to be. The best any of my rifles shoot is when Eley RWS ect are involed thanks

I’m shooting more .22lr lately than I have in years. I have a son that has taken an interest in the sport so now we use twice the ammo. .22 lets us shoot more for less. It’s funny seeing the brands I used to trust having some issues and a brand like Remington be reliable. I was a little shocked. We are not bullseye shooting by any means, but putting holes in paper and hitting poppers is a lot more fun than clearing jams.

Of the high velocity .22lr rounds that primarily for target/plinking, I find CCI pretty much still the best bet for the money.
Last year, I shot one type of steel match similar to rimfire challenge, except with a whole lot more targets per stage. Bottom line, speed and volume were involved and extreme reliability from the pistols, carbines and ammo were needed.
Nothing ran better for me than CCI Minimag roundnose.

A week or so ago there was a couple threads here on RFC reporting CCI Standard Velocity was having issues going bang.
Can you get the mini mag lot number posted here? Maybe we can track this. Hopefully, it is restricted to a specific lot or two.
Did you pull the bullet out of the five strike cartridge? I understand that misfire cartridges like that often missed getting their primer goo in the base.

Y'all need to get in the habit of pulling those ftf's apart.
Multiple strikes and no bang?
Disassemble that cartridge and dump the powder onto a sheet of paper.
Check for primer chunks mixed in with the powder.
Look inside the brass for bare spots in the rim
where the primer should be located.
Can't go bang if the primer ain't there, eh?

Take a pic of the dumped powder with the primer chunks in it
ya' have something to post that explains why and is hard to argue with. ;)

All regular .22LR ammo will occasionally experience FTF rounds. I shoot a lot of the cheaper stuff like Aguila, CCI and Federal and CCI has the fewest FTF rounds in my experience. The worst is the Federal Auto Match, but it shoots well in my Buck Mark, so I tolerate the occasional FTF. Very rarely, does it fail to fire on a second strike. Such is life when you shoot .22LR rimfire o_O

I’m expecting to see it eventually. No streak will last forever. I bought a P322 back a while ago and I have over 1500 rounds through it with the CCI Mini-Mags solids and hollow points. Have not had any firing or feeding problems. I shot a couple hundred of the Remington Ranch Hands through it with zero problems. But I am cleaning it to some degree every 100-200 rounds. I put some older Federal Champions, Eagles and Game-Shok thru it and they cycled well also. I tried some ThunderBolts in it and my results were not great, had some jams, not many. But shooting these was at the end of the shooting session and I attributed it to being dirty.
But on a reliability point I’m satisfied just using the CCI MiniMags and the Ranch Hands. But I am expecting a MM or RH to not fire eventually. I have never seen a .22 lr that isn’t dirty, some dirtier than others.

With the Sig Sauer P322 the factory/manufactuer has video and reviews on clip loading to keep for encountering feed issues. I saw the videos before I ever bought the hand gun and have been following their advise on loading the mags. Along with keeping it clean I have over 1500 rounds of just the CCI without a failure.

So I picked up a Mossberg 702 plinkster just because it was $117.00. I cleaned it and test fired to sight in the fiber optic sights that come on it. 30 rounds of golden bullet with one stove pipe jam. 10 rounds of federal champion no problems. 10 round of the Mini mag hollow points with one failure to fire after the primer was hit. I’m convinced that I got a bad batch as all of my MM was purchased together. I’ve had perfect reliability from the MM 40gr round nose though so who knows. On a side note at 30 yards this rifle was off 4 inches high and 4 inches to the right. Great job MOSSBERG.

I'm attacking the accuracy pursuit on my OG PWS Summit T3 action (separate thread here on RFC) and I'm testing various ammo with it, to see what it likes best. So far, the CCI SV shoots VERY well (running a KYL 8 round target at 50 yds), and the next best I found is SK Standard Plus. However, I was having so many FTF (light primer strikes) on the SK, but the CCI SV would go bang each time. I replaced my firing pin, extractors and springs with the Volquartsen kit, and it cut the FTF on the SK to almost none. I have yet to have issues with the CCI SV. I just ordered two bricks of CCI SV to shoot.

Granted, my CCI SV is older, had it for years. Interesting to see how the newer CCI SV (blue bricks) shoot.

We burn through a fair about of ammo during the development of new products, and CCI remains our go-to brand.

Like others here, from time to time we get some FTF rounds, but it's less than 1%. I figure during development time, we burn about a case a week. It's a mix of Mini Mag, Mini Mag HP, Velocitor, Standard Velocity, and some of their Green 22.
